My esteemed listamtes,

It’s my understanding a 2015 MacBook Pro cannot be upgraded to run
macOS 13 (Ventura) or higher, and the CPU cannot be upgraded to an i13
processor.

Has anyone converted a MacBook Pro to Linux by clean sweeping the
hard drive and installing any Linux distro?

How about installing a virtual box on their MacBook Pro?

Let's be resourceful this Labor Day!

Thank you.

Charles.

Yes, you should be able to run all sorts of linux distros on a 2015 MacBook Pro, and I've had good luck doing so on macbook pros.

A linux distro on a VM (virtual box) might be too slow on a 2015 MBP, depending on what you'll be doing on it. Technically it should work on the stock 8GB RAM, but you may want to beef it up a bit to make it worthwhile.

I'd suggest the former strategy in most cases.

I’ve not done the conversion but I did run an intel MacBook Pro for 10 years with no signs of stopping.  It was eventually stolen.  I’m just bummed I didn’t get to bronze it and put it on the wall as a tribute to its 10+ years of service.

This was up until 3 years ago so things may have changed but even with limited updates it “just worked” with OS X.

What issues are you having that make running Linux on it attractive?  Is it slow?  The desire for security updates?  General disdain for big tech?  These might help suggest a direction or distribution.

Another option I found but did not try myself is OCLP that lets you install recent versions of MacOS on legacy hardware
