My talented listmates....

Here's the conundrum! :)

99% of my 3d designs are in Tinkercad (self-taught) still learning … a lot.

I seemingly (out of ignorance) do what I think should be an easy task which then can turn out sometimes badly using Tinkercad.

For example, I’ll import an .stl file offered free on Thingiverse or Maker World into Tinkercad. I’ll just add a star (Basic Shape) or the Basic Shape (Text) to place a name on that stl file imported (e.g. a castle with my name placed on it.

I group them, export as stl, import that into the most recent Prusa Slicer make a few settings adjustments for the 1st layer and speed and cut the code.

I save that to a flash drive and insert that flash drive into the Prusa Mini + and it prints the stl OK but not the star or my name on it.

I’m trying to self-educate re: how to spot and fix errors in an stl file before I print.

I’ve watched a number of Tinkercad videos, posted on Facebook Tinkercad, read reddit threads but they don’t always broach the specific task at hand.

Prusa and Bambu forums can be helpful but there’s an expectation you’ve mastered Tinkercad or you’re proficient in On Shape, Fusion 360 or SolidWorks.

I understand some like Blender but I’ve found that as un-intuitive as GIMP for graphics.

If you’ve become proficient in Tinkercad, what was your process besides trial and error?

I’m trying to teach others what I learn as well.

Thank you!

Charles.

The default export is "selected shape" (whatever happens to be clicked at the time) so maybe you're not changing that to "everything in design"?

The other option is to just work in the slicer, if you're using a Prusa Printer you can combine things directly:

To save time from failed prints, inspect the slicer’s layer-by-layer view. In Preview there is a slider on the right that lets you see what path is taken for each layer. Make sure it is including your edits.
