Remove background using MS Paint - help needed ASAP please

My talented listmates,

I've been using MS Paint for years.

Something has happened.

Now when I open it there are 2 "sliders" along the left screen

I have no idea how they got there.

I've played with them but nothing removes them.

And I open a jpg in Paint and click Remove Background but instead of getting that checkered background look I get all these colored bobs.

The YT makes it look easy.

Paint will not operate like that on my W11 laptop.

Any idea what's going on and how I can simply import a jpg or png into Paint click Remove Background to have no background or just a black background?

I'm so on deadline for this!!!

I recommend paint.net. Similar, but better.  I use it for erasing backgrounds.

If all you want to do is remove a background in a hurry, try this. It's part of iloveimg.com, which provides some common image operations via browser.
