Hi All,
I want to create short videos on how to do some basic 3D printing.
I can record the video with VLC Media Player but after watching 4 YT videos
none of what they suggested worked.
Have you created screen captures of bit video and your own voice narrating
using VLC Media Player (Windows 11)?
Thank you.
Charles.

I don't recall the last time I recorded just audio on a PC, but another
app option for that is Audacity.
I can't tell whether you're also recording video of your screen for
this, but if you are maybe audio capture from a microphone is also a
feature of the tool you're using for that. I don't have any specific
advice to give there though.

Charles,
The built-in *Windows Game Bar* works well for this and is often much
simpler than VLC for short how-to videos.
On *Windows 11*, press *Windows Key + G* to bring it up. From there, you
can start a screen recording and narrate using your microphone at the same
time. It captures the screen of whatever application you’re demonstrating
(slicers like Cura, PrusaSlicer, etc. work fine).
A couple of small tips:
-
Make sure your *microphone is enabled* in the Game Bar audio widget
(easy to miss the first time).
-
Recordings are automatically saved to *Videos → Captures*.
-
It’s best for recording an application window rather than the full
desktop, but that’s usually fine for software demos.
For quick instructional videos, it’s been very reliable in my experience
and avoids a lot of the VLC setup pain.
