Hello Sector67 community!

Peter and I have scheduled another "Adding with Electricity" class. It is happening 9:00am-1:00pm Saturday March 14th (pi day!). There will be pie. This is a class for all ages that can focus through the four-hour class, but if you have a kid younger than high school age, it is best to have them work with an adult. The two of you as a pair can just register for one spot. There are eight spots and you can register at:

If you've ever wanted to understand more about electricity, transistors, or digital electronics this class is a great starting point. Here's a brief class abstract:

Adding with Electricity is a four-hour hands-on deep dive exploration of the digital electronics that power our modern world. Starting from the basics of electricity and transistors, students are introduced to the binary number system and the logic gates that power all digital electronics. Along the way, you’ll learn how solderless breadboards actually work and use transistors and resistors to build logic gates from scratch. By the end of the session, each participant will have built a functioning circuit that can add numbers, and the class will collaborate to scale that up into a larger, multi-bit adder, experiencing firsthand how individual pieces combine into real computational power.

Attendees should be comfortable with basic arithmetic and be ready to stay focused for a full four-hour session, with short breaks to recharge both brains and batteries.

Some pictures from the first class are attached.

Hope to see you on the 14th!

Scott

Hi Scott,

Thanks again for the class, I really enjoyed it, despite my slowness. I just saw this

and thought it might be something you'all would look at.  I'd taken one apart (or maybe found it disassembled by a car tire) and wondered about the board and battery inside. Apparently not just the "reverse digital ocarina" but
The Paper Bag Team are all careful to credit other fellow makers like artist Sebastian Bidegain, who built a Vape camera; maker Becky Stern’s efforts to reuse vape batteries; and Disengineering, an art collective that turned vapes into microphones. Part of the goal of running workshops and putting the DIY instructions online is to encourage people to find their own ways to repurpose e-waste.
