Hey all,

I recently picked up a Waveshare touch display, and it tends to wipe out 2.4 GHz Wifi and GPS.  It has four mounting posts for a RPi3, and four short standoffs for additional distance which they recommend.

I'm trying to figure out how to get/make a thin copper plate/sheet that I can sandwich between the posts and the standoffs to provide additional RF shielding for the RPi.  Something the length and width of the RPi (or a wee bit larger, provided it doesn't impact the four screen mounting standoffs) with the holes drilled in the appropriate spots ought to work.

Does anybody have any suggestions?

Hey Thomas, I've used this copper tape for shielding electric guitars in the past. I would think it would work well for the raspberry pi.  https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01I1XNY1E

Two easy options: copper or aluminum tape, or copper-clad bakelite. The easiest of the two is going to be copper tape. I have 1.5" copper tape, so two strips the length of the pi should do it. Put the tape on some card stock, put packing tape over the top as an insulating layer, and there you go. Copper-clad bakelite is just a foil layer on top of an easily machined substrate that's the same thickness as a PCB. Usually it's used to mill 1-sided PCBs, but it could easily be cut to the appropriate size. I have both options and would be willing to drop them off at Sector for you.

It looks like you're not the only one experiencing this issue (https://forums.raspberrypi.com/viewtopic.php?t=284403). I wonder if the solution in this link will work for you: https://forums.raspberrypi.com/viewtopic.php?t=320023. I'd try to eliminate the noise before creating a barrier that might just block the WiFi signal from reaching the router.
