My talented listmates,

In the next day or so I’ll be forced to upgrade from W10 to 11 on my Dell laptop.

It's upgradeable to 11 (checked).

I’ve read it takes about 1 hour.

Have others who’ve done this themselves found it required at least an hour? Longer?

Any glitches along the way?

Anything I should look out for?

Did you just press download and upgrade like I've been rooted to do for the past 2 years?

Thank you,

Charles.

I updated about five machines from 10 to 11.

Three went without an issue.

One failed - critical driver wasn’t in the install.

I downloaded the driver from the manufacturer's website and added the driver manually during the next attempt and it worked.

On one machine the update to 11 removed the scanner driver - I manually added the driver later.

Another machine I restored back to 10 since an important software package wasn’t working under 11.

The restore back to 10 worked without issues - single double click and 30 minute wait.

This was a while ago - things may have changed but I’d say Microsoft did a decent job.

Markus.

You can extend windows update for 1 year. $30, but I did it on my dad's machine and there was no charge.
