Sector67 community-
I’m excited to announce that Sector67 will be co-hosting a repair cafe event with the Madison Tool Library August 1st 2026 at Sector67. Repair cafes are free, community-based events where volunteers help repair broken household items like electronics, clothing, and furniture to reduce waste and fight throwaway culture. These gatherings promote sustainability by teaching repair skills, fostering community connection, and keeping functional items out of landfills. In addition to repairing items, we’re hoping to have a take-apart table for kids, and provide mentors to work with folks that would like to learn more repair skills.
A small group from the Sector67 community has been attending other local repair cafe type events, coordinating with other repair-minded people and organizations, and we’ve been inspired to host our own event.
Events like this are a great way to build community and get things repaired, but they take a lot of organizing. Some of the things that need to get done are:
Coordinate take-apart table preparation and day-of
Community outreach and event marketing
Volunteer repairer recruitment and orientation
Day-of event reception and item triage
Day-of event repair volunteer coordination
Facility prep and day-of coordination
Refreshment coordination preparation and day-of
Insurance/liability/forms coordination
Repair data tracking and reporting
We need help with all of this! If you are interested in helping organize Sector67’s first repair cafe, please reach out to me (Scott Hasse) at sc...@sector67.org.
Sun Prairie is hosting a repair cafe April 15th (https://cityofsunprairie.com/2077/Repair-Cafe) and Zero Waste Madison is hosting an upcoming repair fair event not far from Sector67 on May 3rd (https://isthmus.com/events/earth-day-repair-fair/). If you want to get a sense for events like this you can bring something to be repaired or volunteer to be a repairer for either event.
This is not yet a call for you to be a volunteer repairer for the Sector67 event. That call will be coming out later. But, if you are passionate about repair and want to help organize our event, please let me know.
Thanks!
Scott
