Hi everyone,
I'm trying to calculate census size using noninvasive genetic sampling (fecal samples, to be exact). When I try to make a polygon made up of the coordinates from all of my samples, it gives me a warning and then only plots 2 out of 185 samples:

Errors in traps
Warning message:
In make.capthist(capt, trps, fmt = fmt, noccasions = noccasions, :
detections with coordinates outside polygon(s) were dropped

The 'traps' input should have the coordinates of the boundary of the polygon that you searched; it is not constructed from the coordinates of the points where you found faeces, as you implied. Perhaps you need to give us some more information.

Murray,

I understand that part now, thank you! I have a one more question. When I did my collecting, I had two sessions. However, I wanted to try running SECR as if I had collected all of my samples in a single "occasion" (for a comparison). When I try running the same code with all of my samples under the same occasion, it gives me an error:

Warning messages:
1: In autoini(capthist, mask, binomN = details$binomN, ignoreusage = details$ignoreusage) :
could not calculate 'dbar'; using detector spacing
2: In secr.fit(myCH1, model = g0 ~ 1, mask6, buffer = 1) :
'secr.fit' failed because initial values not found (data sparse?); specify transformed values in 'start'

Hi
I'm glad you made some progress!

Let me get pedantic on two points: we use 'session' and 'occasion' to mean different things in 'secr' (and Density, where the Help explains this better). I think you mean 'occasion'. Also, case is important in R, and the package is 'secr' (lowercase).

I can't really tell what you've done to combine occasions (would make sense to use 'reduce') or what code you have used to get the error message. Also, it looks like you are trying to use both a mask and a buffer distance; specify just one of these. Again, maybe you need to give us more.

Murray,

I have everything figured now. Thank you!
