Microsoft released five patches, including four for flaws which it
rates as 'critical', which could result in 'remote code execution' and
be used to hijack a Windows PC without the knowledge of the user.
According to Microsoft, the five patches issued this month are for
users of Windows Vista, XP, 2000, Server 2003 and Microsoft Content
Management Server.
The patches include a new version of a patch released earlier this
month which is intended to close a flaw in the way animated cursors
are handled by Windows. The flaw was being used by hacking groups to
establish booby-trapped websites intended to hijack PCs, with World of
Warcraft players amongst those targeted.
Some users found the original cursor patch conflicted with other
programs on their PC, such as CD-Tag, Realtek HD Audio Control Panel,
TUGZip and ElsterFormular, according to BBC News.
