Thank you for all the good wishes, valuable
suggestions, guidance and moral support that so many of you have extended to me so far. Your encouraging words have given me the confidence that I, with all your joint support, can bring about the much expected changes at BNKS and take it to the heights that makes any one proud to be associated with it.
I have prepared a decisive vision regarding the future of BNKS. I thank everyone who directly or indirectly contributed while formulating it. I will slowly disclose it to the stakeholders, and I consider SEBS as one of the key stakeholders of the future. I believe that the time has come for the senior members of SEBS to start giving back to the school.
Here are the two of the many areas where SEBS can play a vital role. The paragraphs
in italic are the related excerpts from my vision paper.
Education is the soul of a society. Therefore, it is imperative for schools like BNKS to transform themselves in synchrony with the evolvement of the society. For BNKS, a few changes in its modus operandi will be the prerequisite for triggering this transformation. While initiating these changes and adapting to the new norms will be challenging, there is no doubt that, with concerted effort from everyone—including the leadership, teachers, parents and past and current students—the school’s dynamism can be enhanced while preserving its current
strengths.
Change 1....e-learning
.... greater investment shall be made to ensure that within five years every student will have a personal computer/laptop so that every assignment is submitted, evaluated and feedback given through intra-net.
I feel that time has come for at least our senior
students to possess a laptop. If we do not provide an easy access to computer and internet, we will soon lag behind others even in A-level. However, before possession of laptops by students becomes legal the school has to make sure that laptops are accessible to every student. So, if the school can mange around 30 laptops/notebooks that can be lent to those who can not afford a personal laptop, then we can certainly let our senior students keep a laptop. I believe SEBSers can contribute in this area.
2. 1. Establishment of an endowment fund: An endowment fund sufficient to support at least one full scholarship student in grade 5 through the interest earned will be established by next year. It is envisioned that once the fund is set up and running, raising its size will not be difficult, particularly given the interest in it from SEBS and a few other donors. Similar to that of most of the rich private US colleges and schools, an effective mechanism will devised to raise sufficient funds from
its alumni and other generous donors to make the endowment fund large enough to support the whole scholarship scheme at BNKS by the next decade.
This has to start immediately. I am personally ready to be the first one to contribute to it, if necessary - although I might not be able to put in a lot. It is possible. For example, Bhawana Poudel from 300 C is already sponsoring 4 girls at BNKS right from class 5. She plans to add at least one every year. So, it is possible! Even if we can not collect enough to support class five students right now, we can star by providing partial scholarship at post SLC level. The government has stopped supporting students beyond class 10. The school has to manage the scholarship for them from its own resources. Thus, the school is forced to reduce the number and the amount after class 10.Several deserving scholarship students are having a hard time finding the resources to make up for the differences. Shreebi, who is visiting the USA in a few weeks time under the State Department's Student Exchange Program, is a perfect example of this problem. So, may be we can start
here.
With best wishes for New Year 2070BS,
