Itinerary & Trek Details

Trip Information:

The Annapurna Base Camp Trek is one of the most popular treks in the world.  Mt. Annapurna (8091 m) is the 10th highest mountain among the world’s 14 eight-thousandersAnnapurnarange is a 55 km (34 miles) long section of Himalayas in North Central Nepal which includes Annapurna I and thirteen additional peaks above 7000 m. and sixteen more over 6000 m.  The Annapurna region lies in the foothill of Mt. Annapurna in the North-central Nepal stretching along with Lamjung Himal from the Kali Gandaki in the west to the Marshyangdi in the east

Annapurna is a Sanskrit word meaning "full of food" (feminine form), but is normally translated as the name for Goddess of the Harvests. In HinduismAnnapurna is" the universal and timeless kitchen-goddess , the mother who feeds. Without her there is starvation, a universal fear. This makes Annapurna a universalgoddess. Her most popular shrine is located in Kashi, on the banks of the river Ganga." Her association with the giving of food (wealth) led her in time to be transformed into Lakshmi, the Goddess of Wealth.

About two-thirds of all trekkers in Nepal visit the Annapurna region. The area is easily accessible, guest houses and teahouses in the hills are plentiful, and treks here offer incredibly diverse scenery, with both high mountains and lowland villages. The trek to Annapurna Base Camp passes through waterfalls, villages, farmlands, rhododendron forests.  Also, because the entire area is inhabited, trekking in the region offers unique cultural exposure and experience. The trek starts for a lower altitude of 800 meters and reach the high altitude of over 4,000 meters, the acclimatization process is gradual.

The Annapurna Base Camp Trek starts from the City of Pokhara. The actual walking begins from Naya Pul which can be reached after an hour short drive from PokharaWhile trekking along toGhandruk, Pass along various small villages like Chimrong,Syauli BazarChane etc., enjoying the close panoramic view ofFishtail, Annapurna South, and Hiuchuli mountains. Ascending  from Ghandrukkot , pass through  additional rhododendron and oak forests, we reach Chhomrong, a gurung village with more close up views of Mt. Annapurna South (8091 m),Machhapuchchhre(6993 m) and Mt. Dhaulagiri (8176m) etc.From Pokkhara, we will visit the BhuPu Sainik Secondary School and Janabikas Government Secondary School in Besisahar. This package will also take you to Chitwan national park, one of the UNESCO World Heritage sites, where you can enjoy Jungle Safari, Elephant Ride and Elephant bath, Ride Canoe in Raptiriver.

The 22-day Annapurna Trek and Chitwan National Park Tour’sitinerary is designed for the trekkers who want relaxed trekking. If you want more longer trek over a challenging pass in Annapurna region, Annapurna Circuit Trek-21 days would be best option as it passes through famous high pass of the world,Thorong La.

Other Useful informations

This trip can be arranged for any number of Trekkers, but we generally include maximum of 14 people for successful trip with optimum quality. However, if you’d like to make a group booking for more than fourteen people, arrangement can be made for that too.

Health & Experience Required

This 12 days Annapurna trek is moderate trek suitable for passionate walkers who can walk at least 6-8 hrs with light back pack. Walking in higher altitude is physically challenging than walking in the lower altitudes.  However, if you are in excellent health and average physical fitness with strong determination and self confidence, you can accomplish this Trek Successfully.

No technical Skills will be required for this Trek; however, past hiking experience will be a plus. Exercising and jogging regularly for few weeks prior to the trek will be a good idea to strengthen your strength and stability. It will be wise to consult your doctor before you decide and set up for this trek.  Participants with pre-existing medical conditions such as heart, lung, and blood disease should inform Artus Tour Limited before booking the trek. If you want to do the same trek in rather relaxed way, we have 16-days itinerary for Annapurna Base Camp trek too.

Acclimatization

Our 12 days itinerary  for Annapurna Base Camp Trek is planned with a high degree of awareness of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). Since, we will be trekking in higher altitudes, going up too fast causes a medical condition serious enough to kill. Higher the altitude, lesser the oxygen in the air. Your body needs some days to adapt to this lower oxygen environment. So, it is  necessary to allow sufficient time for acclimatization. We advise, specially the trekkers with known heart, lungs or blood diseases, to consult their doctor before traveling.  Mild headaches, fever, loss of appetite or stomach disorder are symptoms of AMS. Our itineraries are designed to try to prevent AMS as much as possible, but it is important to remember that some people are more vulnerable than others.

Leader(s) & Staff Arrangements

The most significant thing that makes your Annapurna Base Camp Trek successful, enjoyable and memorable is the skilled, experienced, courteous and helpful trek leader and the crew members with ability of operating your days in the mountain smoothly. Your trip will be led by the best and most professional leaders. All of our trekking leaders are carefully selected on the basis of their appropriate experience, leadership skills and personal aptitude. With an objective of sustaining local communities Treks & Hikes (Sister Company of Artus Tour Limitedonly employs Nepalese staffs who have adequate knowledgeable about culture, ecosystem, flora, fauna, geography, and history of Nepal. Trek leaders of Treks & Hikes (Sister Company of Artus Tour Limited)are also trained with following trainings to make them educated on potential medical issues during their trek, biodiversity and environmental issues, language, etc:

Intensive Wilderness First Aid
Trekking Guide Training
Eco Trekking Workshop & Adventure Meet
English Language
Conservation and Biodiversity

Porter Care

The entire trekking and expedition industry in Nepal is built on the back of hard working local porters. It is their tireless efforts carrying supplies, equipment and baggage that make journeying to these remote areas possible. So it's very unfortunate that they have endured a history of exploitation and abuse at the hands of the industry. In an effort to combat this, we are firmly committed to porter rights. We ensure all our porters are well treated, well paid and we provide the level of shelter, clothing and footwear that these harsh environments demand. Porters who become sick are treated with the same care and attention as other team members.  And for the porter's sake we require that all trekkers keep their luggage bag weight under 15kgs/33 pounds. We support the work of the International Porter Protection Group(IPPG), making our resources available to them to help improve the working conditions of the porters.

Environmental Concerns

The Annapurna Region is stunningly beautiful, but equally fragile. Future generations have just as much of a right to appreciate it as we do and so the tourism industry has an obligation to protect and preserve it. We employ a 'zero impact' policy on the natural environment and the traditional communities that live there. We enforce a number of do's and don'ts, and our experienced staffs can advise you on how to minimize your impact.

Equipments & Packing List

You are advised to consider the following equipments as essentials while packing for the Annapurna Base Camp Trek. Please use this list as a guideline. Adjustments to the list can be done according to your needs, interests, duration of your trip, season of your trip, etc.  You can find variety of these gears to hire or buy in Kathmandu. Majority of the gears which are in sale in Kathmandu are locally manufactured (hence a lot cheaper) and some gears found here are imported from China and are obviously of better quality.  You can find very high quality branded gears too in some famous stores here.
