Hello,

I was able to pick up an H8 in really nice physical condition, but it has the original tin plated pins on the backplane and expansion cards, so thought it might be prudent to replace these with gold plated connectors. Does anyone know of a good source for the sockets used on the expansion cards? Original red preferred, but anything would work I suppose.

I would also need some for the more modern boards I am planning on building once I make sure that this unit is up and running. I have yet to power it up, but hope to next week sometime.

Thanks, Randy

So you plan to replace the tinned pins with gold (good) but are you also replacing edge connectors on boards? I’m not sure that’s necessary. Or are you talking about getting connectors for new boards you plan to build?

The 25-pin Molex edge connectors are difficult to source (I’ve had some luck with pinball parts vendors) but you can find them in 10- and 15-connector sizes so use a 10 and a 15. The new ones I’ve seen are all white, not red.

Yes, the pins on the backplane (pretty standard parts) and the right angle sockets that clip onto the edge of the expansion card PCB that mates with the backplane pins.

I plan on using these on both the original boards as well as the more modern boards I purchased from Todd.

Here’s a Molex 15-connection right-angle female connector that I believe is what you’re looking for

and the 10-connection:

you’d need two of each for each board.

Most (all?) of Norberto’s boards are designed to also take the Samtec connector (that’s usually what’s called out in his BOMs). Those are my preferred edge connectors – they’re rock solid, attached in two locations for each pin. Mouser seems to have them in stock (693 can ship immediately):

see below for example:

Either approach should work for you
