FYI I’m bidding on Heathkit software on eBay, item 154695551021. Will be glad to share here anything useful I get if I win, just didn’t want to start a bidding war with anyone here. That seller also has HDOS source listings up for bids (I’m not bidding on those)

Right but that’s just the starting bid of course.  The market will determine the price.  But still nice to see someone with a more reasonable bidding strategy…

I was looking at the z100 stuff.   I can chip in if copies of those were
available.  (Soon to have a replacement for my lost Z100)

I have a Z100 and pretty good selection of software as well. I'll have to get that out at some point and take inventory... I think I have most/all of my original disks. Lost some of the manuals in a flood in our basement some years ago...

Is anyone aware of a repository for H/Z-100 software?  I've got ZDOS, CPM-85, CPM-86 and Multiplan. Anything else I wrote in ZBASIC.  I'd really like to use my '100 much more than I am.  Thanks!

BTW - I've already checked out Z-100 Lifeline and pestinger.net

Unfortunately, there's very little.   Several SEBHC members have Z100s and have personal collections  (I actually had a fairly large one before the fires) but it's generally not the focus of the group.  I've searched for years and found very little beyond the occasional EBay offering and that is almost always the same basic disks.  It's a bummer that the Z100 came along when it did - it was state of art when announced but doomed from the start by the PC juggernaut so it never had time to build a large hobbyist following.   FWIW, the Capitol Heath Users Group  (CHUG) in Wash DC supposedly had a massive Z100 library (along with an equally large H8/H89 collection)  but despite years of searching, I've never found a copy of the library.

Interesting!   I used to have a stack of the Walnut Creek CDs but never stumbled across the Z100 files.  That is quite an archive.

Every one of the Walnut Creek CDs is also available on the Internet
Archive - many were donated from the personal stash of the WC CEO.

I too have had the urge lately to get back to the Z100 (fair game for this forum since one of its two brains is an 8085).  One of the many things on my “to do” wish list for the colder months ahead.

In addition to my original H-120 (dual floppy kit version) I have a hard-disk Z-120 unit that I bought fairly cheap because it had an imploded CRT!  But I may do a CRT transplant and get a single working system.  Last I tried it was able to boot from the hard drive (I attached an external monitor) but I’d want to replace that with something like DREM (https://www.drem.info/).  I also saw an article, I think in one of the Lifelines, about swapping out that incredibly noisy fan for a modern quiet one.  Maybe add a GoTek, see if I can use the Open Source Scan Converter to get HDMI display, etc.

No end of possibilities in this hobby.   We’ll see what the coming months bring…

Joseph,

Herb at retrotechnology has a bundle of Z100 software copies on disk available for around $65.00 - 80.00 - he has fast and reliable delivery.

https://retrotechnology.com/herbs_stuff/z100.html

I have an H-111 system with the enhanced memory and video, plus 1/2 height floppies.

Thanks to All!

I just acquired a Z-100 Lifeline IDE Controller w/Compact Flash interface and a 64MB CF card from Steve Vagts and am going through the process of getting it installed and setup.  I like the onboard RTC which is going to allow me to relocate my Hayes Chronograph to my H8 since HDOS 3 supports date and time.

I also acquired a few boxes of old Z100 floppies (from someone else) including many original disks.  I need to sort through them to determine what exactly I have.  Once I do, I'll be happy to share them with you.

Regards,
Joe Travis n6ypc
