I decided to spin up the original Z67-IDE controller. I added I2C, rotatory encoder, + other extras. It can support up to 4 IDE devices, so you can boot the H67 from 00 to 03. Attached is the final board layout.

Thanks,

Norberto

Wow. And hopefully less dependence on hard-to-get components?

I still have my original IDE board. Was nice to draw power from the H8 buss and no external cabinet/PS needed, but it was limited to 4Mhz operation…

Nice work, as always Norberto!

The only item hard to get will be the SCSI controller. I will secure 40-pcs ~$5.00 each. They have over 1700 pcs in stock. This new controller will work @10MHz as well.

I have a couple undred NCR 5385Es in 600mil DIP48 here, if that would
open up any options.

Yes, sorry, I was typing while distracted. I should have as many as
a hundred, possibly two hundred.

WOW! That is a lot of SCSI controllers. Also that is a big size SCSI controller.

Can you send me a few to check it out?

Hello Dave,

After reviewing the specs for the NCR 5385 controller, it also needs the NCR8310 which provides the 48ma bus drivers for single ended interface. If you do not have the NCR8310 bus driver IC, then I cannot use such SCSI controller.

Thank,

Oh, right. These were used in a differential application. I don't
have any 8310s.

Norby,

It is exciting to have the prospect of 4 drives.  Are you going to have
this board produced?

It looks like this is a full sized board that will still require either
the new storage card or a SASI card.  Is that correct?

I will be building a few for development. Then I will spin the same board to use SD cards instead of CF cards with a cheaper micro-controller.

This board requires the H8-H67 controller to boot HDOS or CP/M. It can be used inside the H8 chassis or it can be standalone in a custom chassis as it only requires +12V or +5V @ 2amps.
