Anyone have any idea about this?

Subject: Heathkit IC 4802 Scope

Dear Mr. Bird

I know this is not quite in the subject line of your digital focus but I have kind of run up against a brick wall in trying to get this Scope running.

My question is whether you have any suggestion as to where I might locate the software driver for a Heathkit IC 4802 Computer Oscilloscope I was given. I would really like to get it working but I don't know where to find such things. Any suggestions would be well appreciated.

I have the software for (I think!) the ID-4801. It might speak the
same protocol.

The IC-4802 was the computer-only version of the ID-4850 digital scope. The 4850, in addition to having a computer interface, also had front-panel pushbuttons to control the input and sweep.

Both models used the same software. The kit came with both an executable that ran under MS-DOS and the source code (BASIC and assembler) for people that wanted to customize it.

If Dave doesn't have the software (the ID-4801 is an EPROM programmer), I might; but I'll have to dig around for it.

Oh, duh, I'm getting my model numbers mixed up. I'll see which one I
have and email again in a moment.

My scope is a 4850. (sorry for the model number mixup...I also had a
4801 EPROM programmer at one point) I have the software for it (DOS, if
I recall correctly) and can make it available for download.

I seem to recall that someone wrote something for it for Windows also,
but I don' think it was distributed by Heath.

Dave:

I have a ID-4801 (the EPROM programmer) but I don't have the software for it.  I would love to obtain a copy of the software if you happen to locate it!

Thanks,

Bob

Ahh, can't help you there unfortunately. I had it many years ago, and
used it primarily in standalone mode. Those few times I did drive it
from a computer, I used a program I wrote for a PDP-11. I lost that
probably 18 years ago.

The EPROM programmer didn't come with any software, you just use any serial communication package to talk to it, eg hyper terminal. The images you upload and download are ASCII HEX files.

Not on a PDP-11 you don't. ;) I ran it using Kermit, but later wrote a little program in BP2 to automate it, mainly as an exercise in serial I/O and "screen-scraping".

Glenn/Dave:

The ID-4801 had a non-kit cousin -- the SD-4801 which did have a software package that you could purchase separately.  I found it in one of the old Heath catalogs.  I believe that it was an MS-DOS based Microsoft Basic program.  However, I have never seen it, so I don't know what form it was in!  :)

Thanks to both of you for your input!

Bob

There is a windows compatible software program for the 4850 at http://www.radiowrench.com/sonic/so02146.html. The link to the software is near the bottom.
