Good Morning, has anyone needed to replace the Keyboard ribbon cable?  It is a 32 conductor cable with female IDC connectors on both ends.  Mine seems to have no retention on the keyboard end and it keeps slipping off the male keyboard connector pins.

Thank You Paul

If the cable is not damaged you might consider replacing the two 32-pin headers. For some reason Heath used tinned connectors instead of gold. Try fitting your ribbon connector into a good gold connector and see if it seems snug. If you decide to replace the cable make sure you use connectors that can withstand a good tug. I think Heath ones were crimped on somehow?

Glenn, the male pins on the TLB appear to be gold plated while the pins on the Keyboard connector look like they are tinned.  I think I will try swapping the cable end-for-end to see if that makes any difference at all.

Thanks for the  quick reply

I've never seen one go bad.  If it doesn't stay firmly connected, it is usually not firmly seated -or- is off by a row.  I guess if it were to go bad, it would be caused by pulling on the cable during removal.

Well, things got MUCH better after I removed the keyboard and cleaned the male pins with a toothbrush and a LITTLE De-Oxit.  The connector feels better when it engages the pins, seems to be holding on them better and all the keys are now working with no appearance of their being at all gritty so apparently the cable was wiggling around when I was typing on the keys.  I am going to blow all the dust off the keyboard with my compressor tho.
