I’ve been motivated lately to fix up some H89 systems I have. As part of this effort I built and installed the “H89 CF SERIAL PARALLEL RTC CONTROLLER” board

H89-CF-SERIAL-PARALLEL-RTC (koyado.com)

Which I believe was jointly developed by Norberto Collado, Rick Davis and Joe Travis.  I’ve got this installed in “Ilya” (named after the fellow in Rockville MD who sold it to me.)  This is actually a much-upgraded H19 (still has the original H19 sticker) that became an ’88, then ’89.  I’ve currently got it running MTR’90. 64K RAM and both hard- and soft-sectored controllers (haven’t gotten the soft one connected to a drive yet).

Huge shout out to Joe and Rick for helping guide me on the way. One of the main sensitivities of this board is to the brand of compact flash used so stick with Joe’s recommendation.  There are good notes on the web page (URL above).

This board gives you not only the compact-flash solid state drive but also an Epson real time clock, two serial ports (DCE 340Q & DTE 330Q) plus a full centronics parallel port.  I’ve hooked it up to my Panasonic (Epson emulator) and works great!  As can be expected there are some tight squeezes on cabling but everything fits.

And Joe has assembled a fine collection of software to run on this system, downloadable as a CF  “.img” file ready to burn to the CF.

Not sure if there are any plans in place yet for a “production” run of this board… (?)

I'm happy to hear that you got it working!  Thanks for the pix!

Very nice setup with the parallel cable attached to the H89 chassis.

I still have several H89-CF boards if anyone is interested (production level).
