Some softcam software such as Magic Camera and ManyCam allows the user to apply graphics and effects to the video as well, making the software more analogous to a video switcher. In effect, softcam software allows the user to project media files as though it were live over a webcam. Video from normal webcams can also be passed through softcam software to allow the same graphics and effects to be overlaid onto normal webcam video.
The historical origins of softcam type software is unclear, but image sensor emulation may have been used by the US and USSR space programs as part of camera integration on spacecraft. In the modern era, physical teleconferencing systems (as opposed to ones dependent on a personal computer) may have been tested with softcam technology in the late 1980s.
The original "init.d" script apparently changed during the Enigma2-OpenPLi update. If you use Oscam installed as an IPK from the OpenPLi feed server, then with the new Oscam version, this softcam script will also be overwritten (or will be added) as the new updated "init.d" softcam script.
So... the new "init.d" script will be added to Enigma2 again, after Enigma2 updating, and there will be two "init.d" softcam scripts (one of your own and one original after its update), for the same Oscam.
It would be better to use the manual Softcam installation method. Do not use the IPK package to install Softcam. And you will solve your problem. See also my instructions, in my softcam script: (because I don't want to describe the whole thing here again ... sorry). In this case, you don't even have to rename this file ... you can leave the name "softcam". It will not be updated by Enigma2 and therefore will not be overwritten by a new - ie updated script.
OScam is a softcam, software to be used to decrypt digital television channels on a settopbox (receiver), as an alternative for a conditional access module (CAM). OScam is, compared with other softcams (Cccam, mgcamd, etc.), open source. Hence, the name Open Source Conditional Access Module (OScam)). OScam is based on the not so well known softcam MpCS. The main features of OScam are next to its softcam capabilities, that it is able to function as a cardserver.
OScam can be downloaded from the OpenPLi feeds (see also _Wiki:Information).
To install OSCam use your remote control go to Menu -> Plugins -> Download plugins (green button) -> softcams then select OSCam to install. Please note after installation you'll have to activate the softcam also in Menu -> Settings -> Softcam / CI -> Softcam settings.
Restart the softcam after changing your config files by pressing Menu on remote control and navigate to: Setup > SoftCam/CI > Softcam setup... > Select softcam > (press left or right to select) oscam > press green button(ok).
