Hi everyone,
Wow it's been a heavy week with so much trauma resurfacing for so many. Thanks to all who have bravely been sharing their stories, in solidarity. I hope you all are hanging in there. I was lucky to get away camping this weekend. I'm so grateful for California's beauty as a way of grounding in these times.

I'm writing to remind you all of this show on Wednesday. It's pretty darn special to me, and I think medicine for the moment. A dream-bill, and a big album release party for Chris Garneau, whose music is a good dose of dream-pop-psychedelia, a bit darker these days than the songs you may recognize from him. This will also be a rare show for Bay Area ex-patriot Emily Ritz in SF. (Both live in NY now.) Many of you know and love Emily. She was a big part of the Bay Area music scene while she was here, bringing sonic love thru her bands Honeycomb and DRMS. She is on first, so please get there early for her set. Doors at 7. Show goes 'til 10:30 only, so you can get home and sleep and wake early if needed. :) Chris's long-awaited new album, YOURS, is amazing. It won't be out officially 'til Nov. 9th, but SF gets an early party. His new single 'Torpedo' is out now & listenable here. Here's the beautiful flyer, made by Emily herself!

I'm attempting to re-organize what this seaweed sway promo project is all about so intend to take a bit of a break after this show... not sure how long, I seem to not be able to resist the challenge of promotion for more than a couple months, if that. However, even tho you will hear from me for choir shows and perhaps some new collaborations, I'm putting an extra call out for folks to make that extra effort to come out this Wednesday, while this current incarnation of the project exists, and because I want to share this excellent music.

Please keep me posted on all you all are up to!

Thanks & love,
 💜
Jessie

PS - Kids Yoga info is below too, if you know any kids ages 3-7 who might want to go! Classes are M, W, & F now at Rock Band Land.

WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 3RD
Seaweed Sway Presents:

CHRIS GARNEAU ALBUM RELEASE (YOURS)
on world tour, from NY

with SF ex-patriot, back in NY
EMILY RITZ

at the beautifully renovated VERDI CLUB
2424 Mariposa Street in SF

ALL AGES

TIME: 7-10:30PM

THE STORY:

This year, CHRIS GARNEAU embarks on a world tour with the first full-band performances in support of his new album Yours. We last heard from the enigmatic singer-songwriter on his 2013 release “Winter Games”, a deeply personal and nostalgic work written from the frozen pastures and decaying crops of a farm in upstate New York.

Yours is his most realized work to date—we see an artist grappling the reins and forcing us into his line of sight with the urgency of an active volcano. Produced in Lyon with Maxime Vavasseur and Benoit Bel, the album’s varied tones reflect Garneau’s nomadism, expanding his hushed folk with the resonance of psychedelia-fused dream pop; with a sound that is at once rich and gauzy, the album is a stunning collection of songs from a distinctive artist at the peak of his creative forces. Yours is out officially November 2018.

In support of his ‘Torpedo’ single release from Yours, and to celebrate the album release early, GARNEAU brings his powerful sensitivity back to San Francisco at THE VERDI CLUB on Oct 3RD. Featuring Maxime Vavasseur on synth, guitar, programming, backing vocals, and Ben Shapiro on drums. His new single was featured this week in Rolling Stone France and written up on Cool Hunting, and can be heard on Spotify and beyond.

EMILY RITZ will be joining Garneau on a few dates of his tour, and will be thus returning to SF for this show.

Emily Ritz is a musician and visual artist who creates otherworldly soul music. A native New Yorker, Ritz spent nearly a decade in the Bay Area making art and performing/releasing music with bands Yesway, Honeycomb, and DRMS. Though her music and art remain very much inspired by the lush landscapes of Northern California, Ritz moved back East to Hudson, NY in 2016. There, she began performing under her own name for the first time and recorded her first solo album Pattern Recess.

Over the years Emily has shared the stage with artists such as Deradoorian, Toro Y Moi, Laura Veirs and Mirah, and collaborated with members of My Morning Jacket, Thao With The Get Down Stay Down, and Two Gallants.

Ritz struggles with Lyme-related arthritis, which at times has left her totally disabled. If you listen closely to her songs, you can hear her experience of feeling trapped in her body, while trying to hold on to the hope for a return to health. The darkness and devastation that comes from loss of mobility is certainly felt, yet the overwhelming sensation given off by these songs is one of healing. It’s rare to find an artist through whom the bliss of creation flows so freely.
