Dear friends & family,

I'm trying out this email list thing again...**
Following are invitations to one-night-only as well as ongoing events - both in person and online! As well as some project news.

*Saturday March 23rd
Conspiracy of Venus (vocal ensemble), directed by Joyce Todd McBride
at Old First Church in SF (we love this space & how they welcome atypical songs for a church)
Sacramento Street at Van Ness Ave.
8pm
You are invited - in person in SF, or via donation-based livestream!
I've been singing in this group since 2007, and I love it + enjoy the challenge!
I'm proud of the work we've been doing, as well as excited to share it!
We'll be singing songs by PJ Harvey, Bjork, Leonard Cohen, Brian Belknap (our dear friend & local artist), Joni Mitchell, & The Beatles.
I'd love to see you there and/or have your presence at the livestream version. I believe the livestream video will be up for a week after the show too (at least), if you're in a different time-zone and want to watch later.

*Monday 3/18 is Brian Belknap's going away party at Hotel Utah!
Brian is moving to NOLA, and I'm sad to see him go but excited for his next adventures.
He is trying to bridge the Bay to Bayou as well - so check-in with him when you head to NOLA.
Come hangout at the Hotel Utah open mic style - bring a song. Brian will play the featured set!
Brian was an early supporter of the Mixtape for Palestine too and helped a ton; here's his track: https://seaweedsway.bandcamp.com/track/im-alright

*Tuesday 3/26 in Oakland & Wednesday 3/27 in SF:
Compersion is in town from Tucson, AZ!
Tuesday 3/26 in Oakland at Beauty Supply Arts (email/text for address)
& Wednesday 3/27 at Luggage Store Gallery in SF!
Come hangout!
Compersion is on the Mixtape for Palestine too; so glad to meet them this summer in LA!
Compersion is "an eclectic mix of strings, winds, and percussion, creating sublime grooves to help you hover just above the earth."

*Thanks for all the donations & encouragement for the Mixtape for Palestine!
Last I checked, we just made it to $13,330 for the Middle East Children's Alliance emergency fund for Gaza.
My heart breaks daily for what the people of Palestine continue to endure, those who have survived.
31,000 deaths at this point, last I checked.
Thanks to the 91 artists for joining this effort to raise $ for Gaza relief.
You can donate directly to MECA to get it at http://bit.ly/MECAmixtape ($25-125 suggested for the 91+ songs)
Preview the songs & tracklist at http://seaweedsway.bandcamp.com
There's so much incredible music to dig into thanks to the wonderful artists who contributed.
Emma likened the mix to a reunion at Amnesia (the music venue where many of us gathered in the past), which feels right, in addition to lots of new artists & this beautiful dispersed music community around the U.S. now.
It's hard to properly speak about this project, there is so much pain in what's happening, and so much love in these songs.
My desire is for people to feel held in grief and love and revival while listening - to have a place to go at this time when so much is hurting - and to find energy to each do what's in our power toward raising awareness. I also just really want people to get to know the artists who generously donated their music and to find a way to step into action (or to add to actions in a way that can bring sonic support). Thanks for all efforts that way.

*Thanks so much to Laura Weinbach of Foxtails Brigade, the Soapbox Salute (playing the Ivy Room Thursday), & Girl Swallows Nightingale for collaborating on a Fundraiser for Gaza at the Fireside Lounge in Alameda Saturday 3/2. We raised $1200 for MECA & Gaza relief! Thanks to those who made it, sent donations from afar, and to those who sent words of support. All helped! Super sweet place with a real fireplace too!

*For ongoing hangouts, you can find me at these places regularly...all welcome.
If you're feeling adventurous - all are welcome to join me at any/all of the following. These practices keep me going, and I love welcoming folks to try them.
They're not everyone's cup of tea, but they are favorites for me if you're willing to try.

*zoom NVC (nonviolent communication) class with Newt, Mondays 7-9pmPST) - learn how to support your needs & empathetic capacity, how to ask for what you want, how to empathize more deeply w/ yourself & others. if you want to go in person, I'll be coordinating a date to go in-person tuesday night at the Center SF sometime too.

*Feldenkrais class with Carolyn (Wednesdays 6pm PST /Saturdays 10am PST) - resting class, ignore the teacher when you wanna or imagine the lesson, super tiny movements that can trick the brain into new patterns, great for movement & psyche habit breaking & deep relaxation once you get in there

*Gaga People dance class with Bear Graham (Tuesdays in person 6:15-7:15 at Joe Goode Annex in the Mission, SF) - no choreography, listen to your body, focus on pleasure, there's so much seaweed sway happening in there (lmk if you decide to go since I could use the motivation!)

These classes have helped me so much to regulate and learn new strategies for coping in this world. It's an ongoing invite. Just send me a message to get the details or let me know you plan to go.

Last but not least!
*Checkout this short of Benjie Lasseau sharing her story- finding solace in her own art thru her life, telling her story at age 77, growing up in the complex waves as "King of Swing" Benny Goodman's daughter:
It was an honor to support Benjie at the SF shows where this was recorded! She is an inspiration, and I hope for more folks to hear her story once it's online. We met in Augusta Moore's Feldenkrais class lying on the floor. :)

Thank you so much. Wishing you all well at this turbulent time.
Jessie
