Man the Fire! Volunteers....?

Hello fellow Seaweed campers,

As you all know, we have a grand art installation this year; thanks to all the efforts put by awesome people at the build parties. 

If you didn't get a chance or not to contribute towards building the art work here is an opportunity to help out. We need some people to regulate the fire at dusk and dawn and keep it safe from any people who might try to ride the pendulum or damage the installation. Here is the roaster to help out. 

All of us who vounteer will have to go through a super short training with Jon or Bryce out there and we'll be ready to go.

Hey All-

We don't need fire tenders Friday night because that will be when we start pulling the electronics etc. off and getting ready to burn the structure down Saturday at 2 am.

I'm your perimeter lead for that grand finale to this awesome project and will be emailing folks this weekend about the plan for that.  (I'll start a separate email thread for that).

For now, plan on an all-hands meeting Thursday over dinner in camp to go over the burn plan.  We'll set the perimeter a few hours ahead of the 2 am burn time and maintain it until the structure has fallen.  Once we drop the perimeter, we will tend the coals for the duration of the burn to make returning the spot to pristine condition easier in the morning.

Pro tip:

For fire tending and especially burn perimeter, natural fiber clothing is recommended (cotton, wool, leather, etc).

Synthetic fibers can melt to your skin, natural fibers tend to self extinguish.

Here are some questions for you:

1: Do we start lighting up the installation at sundown?

2: How long will the lights be up? (2/3/4/5 hours)

Just talked to Bryce and I have some answers for people asking about shift timings and responsibilities. 

1: Lights: These are already pre-programmed so we don't have to worry about these.

2: Fire: Installation will be lit only when there are volunteers guarding it. Otherwise, it will not be. 

3:  Shift hours:  Best planned at night after sundown when it's dark. Building upon (#2), you plan your shift hours. Minimum of 2-4 hours would be great. Keep in mind, the fire will be 'on' only when "YOU" are guarding the installation. 

3: Fire Training: Fire training is required for the volunteers. I assume people volunteering early in the week on Sunday and Monday can help others to ramp up. I'm myself getting there on Tuesday evening. Still looking for volunteers for Sunday.

4: Minimum Required people: 2 is the minimum number, but feel free to add more love. If there are other spots empty in the schedule, probably split to another day if it works.
