Shoppers---

Ksenia 2067356447
Aditya 2069100023
have volunteered to shop. Talk/coordinate amongst yourselves.

Rachel 4252934207 is going to cook the hell out of some Pulled Pork

No one else has volunteered to take on a meal except the Ksenia and her goat curry... which could replace another meal If there is one people really don't like.

Other than that the plan is to prep the hell out of the rest of the dishes as a group, cook it, vac it, freeze it.
Another option, all the food gets bought at once, divided up between recipes and assigned to someone. This may be most realistic since Jon's house probably doesn't have a 20 burner stove.

For everyone's sanity it will be best to keep dialogue on this thread.... I can only sneak away to the bathroom to text so much during the day.

Just chatted with Jon and his house is open, specifically the back door!! Shoppers and anyone free during the day is more than welcome to start early. Unless I can escape work early I won't be there until 6ish.
Feel free to look around and find the utensils you need. There is a regular stove and a grill with a burner in the back and a large pot we can use on the grill burner.
Jon's biggest request is we CLEAN UP after ourselves. I don't think I need to explain how important Leave No Trace is- on the playa, in the mountains, at your friends house.

Bring cutting boards
         knives
         food processor
         ironic aprons
tunes to plug in and rock out to.
         mandolin slicer

I'll bring some booze.

Jon DOES NOT have freezer space. This is a major concern and the grand poobahs are working on getting us a freezer to use for the next month. Plan B is everyone gets to share the responsibility and freezer needs for the group. Not ideal, so if anyone has a med sized freezer we can use, that would be ideal.

Tip from experience:

Label the sealed bags clearly with sharpie: the food & the night (day & date) that it is scheduled to be served on (if applicable).  This makes everyone's life easier when it's time to make dinner on Playa.
I'll print Amay's table from the top of the thread and bring it to the cooking party tonight so we cant track what's been made and whose freezer is temporarily giving it a home.

I'm planning to go shopping later this afternoon (ideally right before the cooking party), so if other shoppers update the spreadsheet that should let me cover gaps from other shoppers.
One of the things the camp kitchen has is a ridiculously giant rice cooker, so rice is best/easiest to take to Playa uncooked and prep it there (the peeps doing dinner that just night have to start a bit earlier to make rice happen).

*excited*

Rice, Rice, Baby!!! Great to hear about the rice cooker. The idea of frozen and vac sealed rice kinda weirded me out.

Good news about a fridge!!

I do have this large Amana side by side. I plugged it in and it works. I will try it overnight to make sure.  We can use it on the Playa and I can store it again or save it anywhere for another burn.

Who has a truck or is willing to rent one to bring it down?

I hate to rain on the rice parade, but I don’t think we’ll have the power to run an electric rice cooker- most of the cooking is done with propane so if we can cook rice using that it’s all good. How many watts is the rice cooker?

we'll have far more than enough power to cook rice...

Alex and I will be up at Blackrock on 9/2 so we can cook any meals post then. This is all done at camp right? If we moved the night of Chili to later in the week i would LOVE to cook that.

Hey Hey All!

I'll be cooking up the Pulled Pork Night delights!  I'm suggesting we prep the slaw ON PLAYA otherwise it's gonna get naaaaasty.. and not in the fun slap your ass kinda way.

I will be doing the Pulled pork on my own time while I mad pack for early departure so Thursday (8/20) I'll be ready to help on all other recipes for the cook party.  I will be bringing my vac-u-seal.  Hit me up if we need extra rice cooker, food processor or any other specialty appliances/gear... I probably have it.

My 2 cents on the Rice:  I've done the suvee re-heat of rice on Playa... the trick is adding a blob of butter before you seal up the bag and that helps make it moist and delicious after freezing.  It's lovely.

Cooked rice is heavier and takes up hella cooler space.  I'm sure reheating pre-frozen rice can totally work, but with cooler space at a premium for transport to playa, taking dry rice in bulk and cooking it when we want it has worked really well for the kitchen in the past.

is it odd every time I read "Booty Squeezes! " i do a bunch of keigels??

Last night was great!! Good people, tasty booze [VooDoo's beers are legit!!!], bumpin' tunes and Jon's place is amazing.... except his cat is a bit fussy. Good news is the only blood spilled was by me.

The shopping list is updated, cooks please double check my edits. Most of the stuff is bought thanks to Ksenia, VooDoo, Rachel and myself. 2 meals are sealed up and ready, a few others are being hammered out today, and overall I'm pretty happy with how things are rolling on the food front. If anyone wants to cook a meal for your fellow Seaweed campers, feel free to step up!! Those who have already signed up for one make sure to update the spreadsheet.

Does anyone have a food dehydrator?? A lot of people want dried fruit and I would much rather make it myself instead of buying chemically preserved and red 34 shit.

Sinfully yours,
El Blanco Diablo

I'll be dropping off delicious meaty packets tomorrow for the cook party. Glad to hear you're prepping your fabulous booty for squeezin'!

PRO TIP: Trader Joes dried fruit doesn't have any crap in it and it's cost effective... In line with Costco per ounce.

I have a large temperature controlled dehydrator that I made watermelon jerky with last year, but this week I'm busier than a 2 dollar hooker in Tijuana, so text me at 619-807-9536 to setup a time and place to make the hand off if you wanna use it.

Hey guys,

Brendan, Kabir, and I cooked the Dahl yesterday. Is the food party on tonight? I was thinking to bring it over for vacuum sealing.

Thanks,
Amay
