Spring 600K Update:

Holly, Sora, Anthony, David, and I completed the Spring 600K pre-ride this past weekend. I've updated the event page with pre-ride notes and other details. Here are the highlights:

* The ride starts at 7:00 AM at the Bike Barn Bainbridge Island (just outside the ferry terminal).
* There WILL be dropbag service.
* Holly will take dropbags and perform rider/bike equipment check on the first (6:10 AM) ferry from Seattle.
* Tony will take dropbags and perform rider/bike equipment check at the finish hotel (Quality Inn).
* THRU-RIDING IS NOT AVAILABLE. Portions of the Olympic Discovery Trail are closed from 11:00 PM to 5:00 AM and all of the Spruce Railroad Trail is closed from dusk to dawn. Signs warn of hefty fines for anyone caught using the trails when closed.
* There are zero services in the ~105K from Amanda Park to the overnight in Forks. Bringing a third water bottle is highly encouraged.

Registration closes Thursday, 06/04 at 12:00 noon. LATE REGISTRATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

In reference to the Day two note: "Garmin generates some random mystery U-Turn cues on this route".

Maybe Garmin is just giving a hint that it is time get off your bike and take a Hokey Pokey break (turn yourself about)?  It might actually help!

Have fun out there!

I’m excited for this ride - I see on the Cue sheet several control points on each day. I’m new to how this works - I doubt someone is at all those spots - so what is the significance of those cues?

Controls are simply “checkpoints” that you are required to ride through. Almost all of the ones you see for the 600k are helpful services where you can resupply or use the restroom. You’re right that you wouldn’t expect to check in with someone at all of them (you just have to make sure your GPS recording device records that you rode through the control). However, for the 600k, you must absolutely check-in with a volunteer at the start control, the overnight control in Forks, and the finish control.

Hope that helps,
Sora

I found that the  "print cuesheet" option from "More" only works on the desktop RWGPS where I found the "more".  I didn't find it on the phone app.

Oops - just learned that thru-riding isn't possible. Anyway - I just booked a room with 2 beds at "Town Motel" in Forks.

If anyone want to share the room with me, please let me know!

A question from the back of the pack regarding logistics, and specifically,  riding through.  I wouldn't anticipate getting to the trail Sunday morning before 5 even without stopping. I move about 11 mph on average and anticipate Forks around 3 AM.  I would think I checked into the control and be on my way. What is protocol?  Do I need to phone the motel front desk, or is check in accessible.

Sorry if I’m misunderstanding your message, but I think you are not staying at the Forks Motel as a guest. For the overnight control check-in process with SIR, there will be a sign directing you to Holly and Keith’s room. You’ll be able to refuel with some food and drink and go on your merry way once you’re ready. Let me know if that answers your question!

Got it.  Thanks.   Right, I'm not staying at the Motel.  I was asking if I needed to phone the desk to access their room. It sounds like I will have access and can check in at the control and ride on.
