First the good news... the course has no significant construction or
hazards to report on (the one possible exception being right before
Shelton where a stop light controls one way, one lane traffic for a
few hundred meters; please obey the light and proceed with traffic).
The bad news is that your most serious challenge of the ride could be
finding parking near Colman Dock and getting to the ferry. Tunnel
related construction has taken away virtually all of the free parking
that we once used to the south of the ferry terminal and all of the
paid parking under the viaduct. Driving around the area today there
appeared to be only the various surface lots nearby but most, if not
all, limit stays to 10 hours or forbid overnight parking. One
potential option was the parking garage adjacent to King Street
Station, which provides overnight indoor parking at about $20/day (be
aware of the low overhead clearance - an easy but expensive way to
quickly remove bikes on racks). My advice is to consider finding
parking somewhere near but not in downtown and biking to the ferry.
Along with the parking challenge, be aware that traffic has been
rerouted near the ferry. See the WSDOT site
http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/ferries/schedule/bulletin.aspx and
http://www.seattle.gov/transportation/constructionlookahead.htm for
alerts and more info. Basically, Alaskan Way between Yesler Way and
north to Madison is now a vehicle holding area. By car, you must
access the new holding area no farther south than Madison. Cyclists
may use the west-side sidewalk of Alaskan Way coming from the south at
the Coast Guard base up to the terminal, yielding to any pedestrians.
Cyclists may access the toll plaza by using the crosswalk at Yesler
Way or merging with traffic southbound on Alaskan Way.

Please take the time to research this prior to Saturday morning and
give yourself plenty of time to get to the ferry before the 6:00am
departure. If you miss the boat your only option to possibly making
the start is to drive around to Bremerton.

Check for any new info on the SIR website. The preliminary cue sheet
is pretty accurate but there will be an update before Friday evening.

Looks like great weather! Should be some fast times if the wind isn't
too fierce. We had a good headwind from the west out to the coast
today but mostly tailwinds coming back, pretty typical I think.

When we did a group ride for the Hood Canal 2.0 permanent in early
July, Greg Sneed sent out this spot.... It's a short ride to the ferry
terminal. We got there really early in the morning and the lot was
completely empty. I don't remember if its ok to park over night there,
though.
