We’ve coordinated an order for SIR reflective gear.  This is gear that, while not officially certified by the EU, should be a functional equivalent for PBP.  With tremendous visibility they are highly recommended for other rides as well. The order will be held open until March 13th.

Both reflective vests and reflective windbreakers are available.  There are men’s and women’s versions in a variety of colors.

Further information is on our home page here:

Also, while this order is open until March 13th, your time is running out on the awesome coffee bean jersey available here:

The deadline for the jersey is Feb. 22.

Regards,
Joe Platzner

Do any of you have experience with VOMax products? I'm a large, based on their sizing charts, yet 90%+ of what I own and wear are medium....

Do they run small?

In that vein, does anyone (other than Mark T.) have a VOMax product in the smaller sizes?  Their sizing guide seems like it doesn't tell the whole story, at least for wind vests.  I'm hoping to avoid ordering a few and hoping one fits...

I have a similar question. Is fit more " euro" than "American"? I'm a 42. Usually US large but XL on their charts. I'm an XXL in my castelli jacket (due to shoulders). If anyone has any experience I'd love to hear it. Unfortunately I couldn't make the PBP meeting where there were samples.

Thanks.

The reflective vest sizing is more American than Euro.

First, I wouldn't be too concerned about the vest not fitting you through the shoulders.

Second, the labels L and XL have no standards. Pay closer attention to the size chart that says an XL fits a 42 inch chest and pick the size closest to your measurement. I generally take an XM, but after looking at the size chart I ordered an XL.

Third, consider the consequences of ordering the wrong size. If you order too small, you'll have trouble fitting it even over a light jersey and you'll look like Bib the Michelin Man. If you order too large, you'll be a little less aerodynamic but you'll have room to add layers underneath. This may be a consideration when riding at night since the temprature sometimes drops when the sun goes down. Also, if it is way too large you'll be able to trade with someone that ordered too small. My experience suggests that people who order too small have more problems trading than those who order too large.

But then, I could be wrong.

I sent VoMax a note, since I wear Med in almost everything, but would be a Large based on their size charts. Their recommendation was to use the chest measurement in determining what size to order (which I did.).

A vest that is a bit too big can also be taken in. Easy fix with a sewing machine. I have even done it with safety pins.

Just got my wind vest in the mail yesterday (thanks HughK) and it's GREAT. It's two vests in one.
Only thing I would change is make the zipper two-way.

I used the vest on the 600K. It's a nice vest and the material is a good weight. It's a little bulkier in the bag or jersey back pocket than my Rapha vest so there's a tradeoff. One issue I had is that there is a flap behind the zipper that is meant add some additional wind protection. They should have made the garment with some stiffener in the flap as it almost always catches on the zipper, making it very difficult to zip and unzip while on the bike. I'm going to bend the flap back on itself and tack it to the garment to effectively remove it as I'd rather have an easy to use zipper.

I had the same problem with the wind flap sticking in the zipper.  But maybe instead of tacking it back, I will run another piece of stiffer fabric between it and the zipper.  I think I have some tent-floor fabric sitting somewhere in the sewing room :-)

My Rapha vest works well and it too has a wind flap but it doesn’t seem to catch. I just looked at it to better understand the difference. The Rapha vest doesn’t have an insert in the flap but instead they stiffen the flap by hemming it at the outer edge and again at the inner edge very close to the zipper. These hems aren’t needed to finish an edge but rather it appears to me that they stiffen the wind flap. Also the Rapha vest uses a better zipper - YKK - and perhaps more importantly a smaller zipper so it’s less likely to catch. Altogether, more thought went into that vest from the standpoint of usability although perhaps less from the standpoint of night visibility.

Thanks, Richard, that sounds pretty easy to try, and doesn't preclude later addition of a stiffer layer at a later date.

Other than that, I really liked the VOMax vest, particularly POCKETS.
