Hi Patricia, welcome to the group.

I may not be the best one to answer this question, but since no one else had chimed in (yet) I'll give it a go.

Am I correct in assuming that you haven't joined the club yet (RUSA and / or SIR)?  The reason I ask is that everyone riding on a RUSA permanent (unlike the populaires such as the one on 10/20) are required by our insurance to be members.  If people are not members or want to ride with non-members, the ride and the miles won't count towards the member's mileage goals. Hopefully someone in this group is available / interested in getting in some 'non-counting' miles and can chime in.

SIR offers a slightly different ride, a 100k populaire, most every month as a way to get around this limitation and to introduce our friends and newcomers to randonneuring and to our rides (my understanding is that populaires are covered under a different insurance policy).  You can find out more information about the October populaire at this link: http://seattlerando.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=437:october-populaire-1020&catid=45:2012-brevets&Itemid=28

I'm going to be out of town on a ride on the days you suggest, but I hope that you can find someone to ride with, and that your schedule would allow you to join us at the populaire on October 20!!!

Thanks,
Albert

Hi there,

I'm new to this group, so I apologize if I'm posting in the wrong place/manner for this topic.

I wanted to try out randonneuring and would like to go for a ride with a slower, experienced rider on a Sunday or Monday to see what it's like.  I suppose this means I'm interested in a group permanent, nothing longer than 100k...I'm not sure that I can ride that far :)

If anyone is free to go for a ride on these days, please let me know... I'm a new rider, interested in getting into touring.  Live in Seattle, my bike and I will travel :)

Thanks,
Patricia

Yes, Yes.  Come join us on our poplaire on Saturday Oct. 20.  The start is just off the freeway in Burlington and the route winds up through pretty roads into Bellingham and returns via the ever scenic Chuckanut Drive.  The total length is 108k (67 miles), most flat to gently rolling, and most of the time one can find someone that rides at the same pace that you do.  It's free, you don't have to be a member of SIR or RUSA, and there might be a neat pin as a souvenier of your ride at the end.

Patricia,

I can do slow, although I don't know yet whether I will be at this Populaire. There are others who can do slow, so I am sure it will be possible to find someone to ride with you. (And maybe you're not all that slow!)

I live in south Seattle, and have just been volunteered to work in Everett.  I’d just getting back into commuting by bike and this will kill that, but I thought I’d ask if anyone has developed a decent bus/bike commute route?

Thx,
