Hi Tandem-owners,
I want to take our tandem to Oakland via Amtrak.

Can anyone verify that Amtrak will accept a de-coupled tandem as 2 bikes without hassle or issue?

thanks,

Carl Lind

Hi Carl: I have taken my Tandem on Amtrak without taking it apart, but that was only because the baggage folks were not old cranky guys. I spoke to a ticket agent and she told me if I buy two Hooks those are mine and if my bike is in two pieces, then there should be no problem. The problem is it’s going to be awkward moving to Tandem if you’ve got a lot of gear by splitting the bike in half and carrying your stuff in a pack or shoulder bag, you should be able to wheel it out and basically at that point, you have a unicycle.

Have a good trip

Andy
