Is the use of the term "spatial mismatch" common in architect speak? It is probably inappropriate at this point, but I redid the first two paragraphs to tighten it up. 2 questions of fact...are there any neighborhoods left in Seattle with restrictive covenants? (they were outlawed by the Feds. a long time ago) Is Seattle's metro trolley system "largely electrified"? My impression is that diesels and hybrids rule the day.
"Several impediments stand between our vision (as outlined above) and today's Seattle. First among them are the disconnect (spacial mismatch) and ecological impact caused by where we live and where we work, shop, learn and play. We tend to get into our cars
to carry on our daily activities. Consequently, choosing Single occupancy Vehicle (SOV) transportation is the largest component of Seattle's carbon footprint. When considered broadly to include road construction and maintenance, it is even larger."

The paper posted on the Google Group is not the current working draft. The White Paper team is working on the draft collaboratively online. I'll send you an invite so you can view and take part in the process if you'd like. We're trying to keep the White Paper traffic off this larger list till we have a version that is ready for wider comment.
Thanks,
Gene
