Greetings all,

The next meeting of the Carbon Neutral Neighborhoods group is this Thursday February 24th from 5:30-7:00 in the Boards & Commissions room L2-80 at City Hall.

For the first half of the meeting we'll have Esther Handy from Councilmember Mike O'Brien's office, and Sara Wysocki the Environmental Sustainability Coordinator from OSE there to give us an update on, and answer questions about, the City's climate goals and planning.

We'll be discussing OSE's plans for community engagement in regard to the City's combined Comprehensive and Climate planning process.  The will include information about what role groups like the existing Carbon Neutrality groups will play, as well as, how the city plans to bring traditionally under represented communities to the table for the planning process.

Some people in our group have requested remote meeting access in order to keep travel down. We have set up a "seattleneighbors"  Skype account.  If there is only one person, we'll be able to do video - if there are more, it will be audio only. If you plan to attend this Thursday's meeting remotely, please contact me (Gene) for details.

Please bring a little healthy food to share. And please let us know if you've got other agenda items for us to consider on Thursday.

Thanks!
Cathy Tuttle, Gene Homicki
Carbon Neutral Neighborhoods Co-chairs

P.S. If you're in/around West Seattle, we'll be having a community forum on "West Seattle’s Transportation Future" tonight at 7pm, with council member Tom Rasmussen facilitating, and a panel of including Chris Arkills from Dow Constantine's office, Peter Hahn the DIrector of SDOT, Martin Duke from the Seattle Transit Blog, and more.

Greetings all,

Just a quick heads up that the city is holding a forum on District Energy at City hall this Tuesday from noon till 1:30pm.  I've included the invitation to the forum and a few resources below for those who may be less familiar with what exactly District Energy is and why it (especially when combined with power generation) can have valuable benefits.

i hope to see at least a few of you there!

Invitation: City of Seattle District Energy Brown Bag Forum

Date:  March 8, 2011, 12 – 1:30 pm
Location:  City Hall Boards & Commissions Room, Room L280

District energy systems are a key strategy for the City of Seattle to achieve its climate protection and energy conservation goals.  The City has engaged a team of international consultants with deep experience in district energy to evaluate locations where expansion of these systems is likely to be most promising.  They are also providing recommendations on the policies the City might want to consider in support of this strategy, and the institutional and regulatory changes that we may need to adopt.  Come learn about the City’s roadmap to spur district energy investments in the city, and hear about other examples of district energy systems around the world.
