Funny you should mention a maker space close to UW. We have a maker space that is working on partnering with their engineer students for the UW tacoma campus.

We will eventually be looking to open another location in the north area as well.

I'm new to the group and a huge fan of 3D printing. I'm part of a team
of UW students who are trying to open MakeSpace, a cafe style location for
Seattle Makers to go to meet, work, collaborate, learn, and
access awesome equipment like 3D printers (Makerbots), 3D scanners, laster
    cutters, etc...

What does everyone think about the idea?

In order to better understand what people in the community want we put
together a survey. Please fill out this survey if you want to help get
    MakeSpace off the ground.

Have you been to Metrix Create:Space? You've just described it.

I run StudentRND, you should check it out. Lots of similarities to what you
    want to do.

+1 on Metrix, if you haven’t been you need to fix that.

Thursday nights are always good for 3D printing discussions, builds, etc.

And holy crap that tour is amazing. I’ve never seen that place with so many lights on. 😊

    all great places...

each different with their own strengths and weakness.

be it location (for user), cost (for access, membership, printing)
exclusivity (or lack thereof), print quality/media/material, hours of
    operation, etc.

considering that inexpensive 3d printing is finally about to go mainstream,
there should be a lot more options out there to pick from (and still
    support the early adopters).

    yes,
should check all those locations out if you haven't already.

also belive Jigsaw now has a 3d printer as of last weekend. still need to
drop by & check how that is setup and have someone post.

Are the prices listed there "typical" for maker spaces?

I'll have to stop by.  It looks like a cool place with some cool projects.
