Have you been to Metrix Create:Space? You've just described it.

I run StudentRND, you should check it out. Lots of similarities to what you want to do.

+1 on Metrix, if you haven’t been you need to fix that.

Thursday nights are always good for 3D printing discussions, builds, etc.

And holy crap that tour is amazing. I’ve never seen that place with so many lights on. 😊

all great places...

each different with their own strengths and weakness.

be it location (for user), cost (for access, membership, printing) exclusivity (or lack thereof), print quality/media/material, hours of operation, etc.

considering that inexpensive 3d printing is finally about to go mainstream, there should be a lot more options out there to pick from (and still support the early adopters).

yes,
should check all those locations out if you haven't already.

also belive Jigsaw now has a 3d printer as of last weekend. still need to drop by & check how that is setup and have someone post.

Thanks for the pointer.  I've been by Metrix, MakerHaus, Student R&D, and TechShop (in Austin TX).  All awesome places.  Metrix is by far the closest to what we are thinking.  Is there anything that Metrix doesn't have that you would like?

Thanks,

Mike

Larry,

I've never heard of Jigsaw.  I went to their website  http://www.jigsawrenaissance.org  and it looks like a really great place.  I'm going to try to stop by there this week to see if I can print something.

Thanks,

Juan,

Thanks for the reference.  I stopped by Makerhaus for a tour and the people are friendly and facility is incredible.  The biggest issue is the pricey membership cost.

Thanks,

Mike

I was also impressed with the tour. I didn't know about the Thursday night discussions.  Thanks for letting me know.

Adam,

I've been by your place and met with Ed.  I expect to stop by again in the future and will hopefully have a chance to meet you.

Thanks,

Mike

there us also ALT Space up in the central dist.

good people, pricing structure, space,
(however no 3d printer last time I heard).

think there may be a more inclusive list but hard to track down from phone (search zeitgeist seattle I think).

if I had time, transport, and the finances, i'd support them all...

in the meanwhile letting people know what is available, in their neihborhood, and fits their needs.

ALT space has a 3d printer of a sort - it's more a place where people share tools than a structured space with rental time and such. I have my 3d printer there and have lent it out already to a few people who wanted to use it.
