If any of you are interested, I'm going to be teaching a class on OpenSCAD this May in Fremont. You can find it here: http://www.makerhaus.com/ under Classes -> Digital Media -> Design for 3D printing: OpenSCAD and Thingiverse. Solid modeling with OpenSCAD is much different than traditional CAD, but also uniquely powerful. The class isn't free, but at least the software is. If you want to see what kinds of things are possible with OpenSCAD, check out my designs here: www.thingiverse.com/emmett

A user-mode program (like OpenSCAD) can’t make your computer crash. Drivers can. OpenSCAD uses OpenGL, and perhaps your “up-to-date” driver has a bug in its OpenGL implementation (not an uncommon issue for drivers focused on gaming performance). I suggest you try using a WHQL certified driver, even if it isn’t the latest and greatest. Certified drivers pass a huge set of tests (including OpenGL tests) to get certified, so it is a rare bug that gets past those tests.

How many other CAD programs that use OpenGL have you run in the last 6 months?
very cool Emmett,
good to have this availible.
btw
you doing anything at Seattle Mini Maker Faire this year?
good luck with your class
