Subject: [Seattle Etchells Fleet] posting a new discussion on our new
Google group... [faked-from]
Hi everyone,
--
For now, it's all this noise is just a bunch of frustrations getting
vented though our Google "discussion" group (it's what there for and now
you have one)... I'm confident that it will work out in the long run.
We are having a special Etchells meeting to discuss the issues and will
come to a Fleet consensus of how to mitigate the concerns with the race
program.
Some of the major issues with BYC racing have arisen from a disgruntled
and dwindling PHRF fleet that is having structure and leadership pains.
Our Fleet by no means has any interest in discouraging racing and we are
truly vested in keeping a quality racing program on Bellingham Bay,
Etchells and PRHF alike. So, our suggestions will incorporate means to
help stabilize and grow PRHF.
Here in Bellingham, we are envious of your race program in Seattle.
I've been nothing but overwhelmed by the professional quality of your
racing. You have great participation from all your fleets and are able
to have dedicated One-Design series and regattas avoiding this mess of
running mixed One-Design and PRHF fleets.
I hope that all this hoopla is not sending the wrong message about the
Bellingham Etchells Fleet.
Our fleet is strong. We are close to getting 14 boats registered this
year which allows us 3 Worlds Spots. We had to make a difficult
decisions to have all our season races count towards or Worlds
Qualifiers. We had a couple boats wanting to train in San Diego this
year who requested a lesser qualification criteria. But the fleet voted
it down since we put a higher price on participation and want to send
our true "Fleet Champions"... that is, the teams that make the
commitment to race every race and not just the qualifiers.
I have a goal of uniting and promoting all the Pacific Northwest
Etchells Fleet. I would like to see more cross fleet racing. This
year, I'm hoping that Bellingham will be able to send a sizable
contingent of boats to NOOD. I have commitments from my crew and I
think we can count on Pete Ambrose's boat to show up. I'll work the
fleet for one or two more. Keep me posted on your numbers.
