Subject: from BRAC133 to AOC

Happy New Year and best wishes as we finally start to crawl out of this recession in 2010!

I am thrilled to be starting a new position next week at the Architect of the Capitol as the Capitol Projects Administrator in their Planning and Project Management Division.  I'll be completing the ongoing $175 million tunnel project and leading the $750 million 700,000 sf Cannon House Office Building renovation to be planned, designed, and built in phases (with 200,000 sf of swing space) over the next eight years.  With the Capitol Visitors Center now complete, the Cannon renovation is the next major project to be undertaken by the AOC.  I'm looking forward to ramping up this challenging assignment which is practically in my back yard in Capitol Hill where I have lived for many years.

My experience hiring and managing an SAIC team supporting the Army Corps on the $1 billion, 1.8 million sf, BRAC133 project at Mark Center has been invaluable.  Most of the key decisions have been made, the base building core & shell construction documents are nearly 100% complete, space plans signed off by tenants, and the structural steel has topped out on the 17th floor.  Duke and Clark are well on their way to delivering this turn-key facility to DoD Washington Headquarters Service by the BRAC deadline (with the Army Corps performing monitoring and compliance).

Most importantly, I want to thank many folks for referrals of candidates that allowed me to put together a very strong SAIC BRAC133 support team!  Just last week, I hired two estimators to assist the Army Corps with their change management process.  I'll forward my new AOC contact info after getting settled in.  In the meantime, I can be reached at powe...@hotmail.com or on my cell at 202 207-8729.
