POSITION TITLE: Director of Information Systems
LOCATION: Washington
KEYWORDS: Director IS, Semiconductor, Northwest,
COMPENSATION: Open Compensation
COMMENTS:
Position Title: Director of Information Systems
SEH America is a leading producer of silicon wafers for the
semiconductor industry. Silicon wafers are the foundation upon which
memory and microprocessor chips are created. Production of polished
wafers and related value-added epi wafers is done in a highly controlled
process manufacturing environment.
SEH America is headquartered in Vancouver, Washington. Vancouver is
conveniently situated within ninety minutes of the beauty and unlimited
forms of recreation available at the Pacific ocean, the Cascade
mountains, the Columbia River Gorge, and Portland. People here are open
and friendly, and it is a good place to raise a family. The region is a
target location for several "clean" industries.
SEH America was founded in 1979 by its Japanese parent company Shin-
Etsu. Shin-Etsu holds more than 25% of the $6B worldwide silicon wafer
market. SEH America maintains a market focus in North America. It has
been a leader in innovation for all of its sister companies across the
world. Currently 1650 are employed in Vancouver and at its sales
offices in the US.
SEH America has progressively committed to capacity and technology
enhancement programs to improve upon their capability to meet market
needs. The company has relied upon the technical expertise of
consultants in recent years to develop newer information systems. They
would like to bring more technical ability in-house. That is where this
opportunity begins.
Profile of the position:
From the company's CEO, to the production employees there is a desire to
bring innovation and leadership to the information systems environment.
The management team would like IS to become a core competency, "a real
engine" for the company.
The new director will be a business strategist, and a focused, goal-
directed and proven information systems professional. While an ability
to leverage information technology for business results is significant
in this role, so too is the capacity to connect with others at the
executive level, to enable them to better understand, then make
effective choices to use information technology to optimize their
business performance. The position will require an individual who can
integrate a systems strategy with business strategy, gain consensus for
systems objectives, then "stay the course" to achieve them.
The Director of IS will participate on the CEO's staff. Their IS
organization will have responsibility for all information systems
efforts of the company. These will include, but not be limited to:
setting and updating long range systems strategies, applications
development and support, desktop computing, networking and
telecommunications, computer operations, computer aided design and
engineering, and manufacturing process control systems.
This person will be expected to improve upon IS project control and
system development methodologies; as well as software development
consultant management. Further they will use their planning, leadership
and motivational abilities to bring the capabilities of the IS
department managers and individual contributors to higher levels; and to
stay current with competencies necessary to achieving systems
objectives.
SEH America has the systems required to support the administrative
aspects of business. They will need to invest significant energy in
shop-floor-control and related manufacturing systems in the near term.
Future efforts will focus on shifting off of legacy systems to client
server ERP systems, and deploying network strategies to better couple
SEH's worldwide systems.
Attributes & experience we seek:
Candidates will have proven their abilities to work with superiors,
peers and subordinates in fast changing manufacturing environments.
They will excel in their ability to communicate across a variety of
business disciplines (manufacturing, finance, marketing, HR, quality,
engineering, etc.). They will have demonstrated excellence in attention
to "customer service" their organization provides.
Candidates will have led teams (of information systems people and users)
through several significant and complex manufacturing systems projects,
from inception to successful conclusion. These efforts will have
incorporated effective software development and project management
methods; and, on occasion, external consultants.
There will be evidence of an ability to make tough choices, selecting
the appropriate critical things to accomplish, sticking to their
decision, and accomplishing what they set out to do.
There will be a history of superb people skills. First, peers and
superiors will have a high degree of respect for the candidate's ability
to develop, present, and gain closure on technical and business
situations and opportunities. They will recognize the candidate's
ability to take on and resolve issues, to think on their feet, and to
work for the betterment of the company. Second, all involved will
attest to the candidate's ability to develop and sustain a high
performance team of professional workers. Included here will be an
ability to mentor/coach/train people to higher levels of performance.
Finally they will have demonstrated they can effectively optimize the
value of technical consultants to their employer.
Candidates will likely come from manufacturing company or manufacturing
systems consulting company employers. The candidates should have
fifteen years of industry experience, with at least eight in a
supervisory role, with the five most recent years managing information
technology people. Experience in a multinational business environment
is highly desirable. Work experience in a high technology environment
would be desirable. A bachelors degree is required, preferably in
computer science.
Compensation is competitive with the national market, and a performance
incentive plan is a component of total compensation. Benefits are very
competitive to those of other progressive firms.
