I'm sharing a message from our dojo treasurer regarding finances. If you would like to receive all dojo messages, you can find a link to our yahoo group on our website   http://www.seattleschoolofaikido.org/contact.aspx

Please remember to stay current on monthly dues and if you're taking a break for the summer, consider making a donation to help keep our doors open. We appreciate your support!

Stay cool!

Hi everyone,

I have been meaning to make this a monthly thing, but it didn't exactly work
out thus far; my apologies.
Here's how we did in the first half of 2010:

Current balance: $6,483.90
 - Total Income: $20, 529.63
 - Total Expenses: $26,279.31
 - Total Net Income: -$5749.68 or average -$800 per month.

Please bear in mind that in the past six months we made some significant
dojo improvements:
- Zebra mats
- Window blinds
- Heater

Also, our rent has gone up as of July 1 to $2,247 which is $147 more than
before.

A reminder that dues can be paid through our ACH system(withdrawal from your
bank account - like a utilities/phone bill) and with a credit card through
PayPal (see our website for the paypal connection).
If you pay by check, I would highly recommend ACH as a means to lessen our
paper usage and eliminate having to remember to put it in the box every
month.  To sign-up for ACH is free and requires a void check.

Happy training and keep cool (this sun and heat thing is called summer, soak
it up!)

andrew

   Andrew
I doubt you want more feedback with dojo finances but I made a simple
observation. Looking at the spread sheet from our meeting it appears that a
year ago the average was approx $400 in the plus month by month. Now we ar3e
currently at -$800.00 so I see a $1200.00 swing.

I was serious about finding a new space or community center type
space. The dojo will die as it stands unless we get some big donations or
something. We should be considering this stuff.  jeremy's marketing idea may
be valid but I'm thinking too little too late in this perdicament.

I'd be interested in knowing our lease obligation and termination
policy.

   Thoughts??

Thanks andrew for the update.  I appreciate all the work it takes to keep
track of inflows and outflows in our community.

One idea would be to raise our dues slightly.which are currently the lowest
in town.

$10/mo per person increase could pay for the cost of our rent increase and
possibly add a little more, to at least try to keep us in the black on a
month to month basis.

Any other thoughts?
