Prepare for a WSDOT closure of northbound I-405 in Kirkland this weekend.
All lanes of northbound I-405 will close from NE 70th Pl to NE 85th Street from 11 p.m. Friday, August 28 to 5 a.m. Monday, August 31. Up to three lanes of NB I-405 also will close from the NE 85th St on-ramp to NE100th St. Expect backups of more than an hour to get to the NE 70th exit. There was a similar closure a few months ago and the backup was 3 miles long at some times. Surrounding streets that offer alternate routes will also be heavily congested.
The following ramps also will close:
A signed detour will be in place. The NE 85th St on-ramp to NB I-405 will remain open.
WSDOT crews will dig out a section of the freeway to install a concrete culvert to reconnect the fish passage beneath NB I-405 to the section under SB I-405 that was built during a full closure in July.
Plan ahead for weekend travel and read more about the closure here: https://wsdot.wa.gov/about/news/2026/northbound-i-405-closure-kirkland-expected-cause-major-delays-aug-28-31

What this specifically means is that if you live south of Kirkland, getting to the meeting tomorrow is likely to be painful. Avoid using I-405 NB north of Hwy. 520 AT ALL COSTS to get to the meeting. The north-south through streets nearest to and east of I-405 (116th Ave. NE and 132nd Ave. NE) are likely to be very congested as well. Further east, such as 148th Ave. NE, are going to be a better bet.
Overall though, your path (pun intended) to happiness is a real-time mapping app.
