Hey, not to nag but the next ICF is just three weeks away and the sign-up form is looking very thin - 7 exhibits and one presentation.  That room costs real money to rent so we should be trying to make the most of it.  If we can't sustain enough interest then it will fade away.

I'm going to be doing my mTCP exhibit again, including bringing extra hardware to help other people debug their setups.  If anybody wants to do a PCjr display talk to me and I can possibly fill in some holes.  Same for the IBM Convertible or IBM PS2 L40SX.

Consider spending the weekend with us and showing your favorite machines or project.  The signup is at https://sdf.org/icf/ .  Even if attendance is light it's still a great hangout and networking experience.

Hi!  I would normally volunteer for both days (as an SDF member/kickstarter).  And I have yet to sign up so thanks for the gentle prodding, Mike.

This spring I can only afford to attend on Saturday.  My wife has another eye surgery and needs lots of post surgery attention, so she is higher on the priority list.

I still need to decide what to bring.  For a one day trip, it will probably be a small(er) item for now.  Hopefully things will stabilize by the fall so I can be there full time again.

See you there soon.
Clay

I just signed up, really need to kick myself into gear I suppose. I'll be setting up the GlobalTalk stuff I was talking about last year.

If anyone else happens to bring an old Mac (or other LocalTalk-capable device!) I'll bring extra PhoneNet adapters so you can join the network as well.

Does anyone happen to have an old-school overhead projector they would like to lend for the festival? My Mac SE comes with an LCD projector panel and that would be fun to set up.

I'll also be using my Greaseweazel setup to image floppies if I have down-time. Bring some disks if you think they need archiving!

Fascinating that my email hasn't received either the first message or any message from one of the reply authors....oh well.

If you're exhibiting and would like network access please send a message to NOC {AT} vintagelink.net - n...@vintagelink.net with how many ports, any speed requirements (10 half for old stuff, but I can change during setup/day of too). Anyway - this will get your request in my ticket system.

I'm looking forward to seeing folks at ICF this month.

What networking setup is that?

I requested networking directly when I registered for the event.  I'm assuming that I'm just going to be plugging into the Xfinity router in the room again.  Unless we are supposed to be doing something different?

Steve — I know a TNC with PBBS on one side of the room, and a TNC + terminal on the other would scratch a few retro itches …

Early networking. BBS. Blinking lights. X.25 with delay. Maybe even a little homebrew-like Z80 machine depending on the TNC in question. A ‘MAIL’ LED. 🤣

Heck, if you set up something *networked* I might even see something new. But that requires more than two nodes…

I sadly don’t have any TNCs left. Sold off my last one almost 10 years ago. But if you have something, it’d make an awesome exhibit.

I’m being a network nerd and making everything worse (hopefully not really) by subjecting everyone to double NAT and providing network ports on a bunch of Cisco switches. See my registration on sdf.org/icf.

Hmmm… interesting idea. Will have to fab some cables and fire up some radios. But… maybe. I have ten days of travel between now and then but it’s possible.

I’m cheering for you if you have the time!

(And hey, if it makes you feel any better, the TNC I sold 10 years ago did have Robust Packet, so it was at least — not stone age.)

(Though they did do some awesome things in the stone age… I remember upgrading from a KPC-3 to a KPC-9612 as a kid, and my dad telling me about the 56K WA4DSY stuff that died years before…and how crushed I was that it wasn’t on the air any longer.)

Michael:

Unfortunately it wasn’t to be. I’m traveling the week before and of ICF and I just didn’t have time to get something set up.

But yes, good point and I’m going to get some hardware running packaged as an easily portable demo.

Thanks,

Steve N8GNJ
