I just picked up a Z89 from a guy in Kenmore selling them from his consignment shop on eBay.

I've only ever used its nearly identical cousin, the h19 terminal, so seeing one as a full computer is a curious mystery. I'm excited to play with it and see what it can do.

I don't have any specific questions, yet, but I'm wondering if any folks in SRCS have familiarity with these beasts. I expect I'll be running headlong into trouble.

P.S. It came with a boot floppy, but no instructions on how to actually boot.

You say "Selling them", aka plural.  Does he have any more remaining?  Also, what consignment store?

Yup. That's the seller. He had at least three Z29s, IIRC.

The guy runs a retro-computing consignment store out of a shipping office in Kenmore, but he sells everything via eBay as there's not enough space. He said he had three garages full of equipment.

His prices are quite good if you are going to pick up instead of having it delivered. (He has a bunch of 5150s, complete systems, if that's your thing).

Yes, they always have lots of stuff...   The local pickup is a hole in the wall but well worth it!

I suspect that's who it was, given the Kenmore location.

I've picked up a few things from that location in the past.  I've been deeply curious about his source of items.  Everything always seems to be in good condition and the prices not unreasonable, all things considered.  It would be cool if he would open his treasure trove up to us; I'm sure he would do pretty well in terms of not having to deal with ebay or pay the ebay tax.

That's also the same place I bought my unwise-impulse-purchase Dual-Core Power Mac G5 from.  Nice fellow, very easygoing.

The guy running the store seemed pleasant if a bit quirky, with his ankh amulet and French accent. He would probably fit in well with SRCS.

I agree it would be cool if SRCS had access to his treasure trove, but I'm not sure how much he'd benefit. I suppose SRCS members could offer to help him sort through the hoard, but I don't think he needs that kind of assistance. My guess is that he'd only give access as a favor to friends.

I starred him on ebay (I don’t think I’ve done this with anybody else!)

I've picked up several items from that seller that I wouldn't have purchased if I had to pay for shipping.

He has a reasonable listing method for most items. Start the first listing maybe a little high and if it doesn't sell, relist at somewhere around 2/3 the first price, and keep repeating that pattern until it gets low enough to sell. Some items get pretty cheap. Unlike many sellers who keep resisting without ever dropping the price.

Re: Source

I’ve also purchased a few items from “Commander Scott” via eBay with local pickup.

He is a good dude and states various sources including local education surplus.
