Hi all,

We ran a fairly successful experiment this past meeting, where we routed an ethernet cable to the centre of the room and plonked an unmanaged switch on the tables there. This supplied network connectivity to several machines with minimal fuss, and seems like a good thing to keep doing.

However, we can't do it without some means of protecting the cable where it traverses the open floor between the tables and the Ethernet port on the wall. Does anyone have a spare cable protector lying around that they could contribute? You can always have it back later if you find you need it again, much like those of us who have contributed folding tables do.

By "cable protector", I am thinking of one of those slope-sided rubber dealies with a groove along the underside to route cables through, but if you have something else that would work, we're not picky.

A cable raceway would be cool, but in a pinch, you could just tape over it with gaffer tape.

"Taping over it" is what we did during Saturday's meeting.  Since it has to be repeatedly taken up and put back down, according to what is being done with the room, not to mention that tape provides no protection against crushing damage, that's not a satisfactory long-term solution.

I had some. I’m not sure they haven’t been thrown away though. I’ll have a look around and if I find them the club can have them.

ok
bear.

I have some about to be thrown out at work. I’ll bring them by before next meeting. I also have an idea for a noCAT (wireless ethernet) solution we can discuss more in person.
