Hi Wes and others,

Like a few of you, I too am a relative newbe to php. It would be great
to get together or at least share obstacles/successes/learning on a
more frequent basis. Especially for those in the south end (I'm in
Auburn).

I've just recently been volunteered to set up a web site for a local
non-profit so I most likely need to come up to speed quickly rather
then just nose around with PHP. My background is embedded software
development and tools and other then dabbling at the html level, my
only real server side work was to actually write an extremely simple
web server for a single board computer. This was most of 9-10 years
back and at the time my peers thought it was a novel but weird idea. I
have to laugh at the idea now because almost everything (or web
appliances) on the web has some sort of limit web server if on them.

Mine was real crude, it would simply look at the extension of the file
to serve. If it was .htm or .html I had a series of prepackaged html
pages tucked away in a data block that would be un-packaged and served
back to the browser. If the extension was .cgi, it would simply call
the embedded code related to something on the board. It worked but the
real challange was that all this had to run on an embedded reat time O/
S and fit in a limit about of flash rom - no hard disks or flash disks
on these single board computers!

Anyway, I would be interested in meeting more often if it's in the
south end or north Tacoma. Keep me informed.

regards,
Bob
