Also, after a bit of discussion, focus is switching to the stanford machine learning lectures.  Comprehensive lecture notes and lectures are available at the following links:

The reason is that the lectures are more comprehensive, while still at a level all of us can handle easily.  Also, if at any given meeting none of us have had time to go through the lecture/notes, we can throw them up on the projector and do so in the meeting.  This isn't as feasible with the book we were using before.  There's no reason we can't still read from it (it's a good book!), but it doesn't fit with the low attendance and our collective time constraints right now.

It would be good to be done with the first two lectures (the first one only has about thirty minutes of content, you can skip the first half; it's course introduction stuff) by that time.  If you can do more, great, I'll be able to talk to you about it a bit, but we'll probably focus on earlier chapters.
