tl;dr: The math meetup is starting to suck a bit. Let's stop that. Let's be awesome. Come and talk about math things you like, ask questions, and generally be informed. Meet other math geeks. Just don't expect there to be a plan; just come and talk about math. P.S.: There is a meetup tomorrow at 6. And next week at six. Please come.
I don't really have the time to do much more than show up and facilitate a bit, even though I am "the organizer". But I'd still really like to see more out of this meetup. There are a few of us consistently showing, and we are all fairly knowledgeable and curious about math. I can't promise there'll ever be a pre-determined subject, or anything of the sort. In fact, there probably won't be. But there will always be people there who know about math and want to talk about it.
In light of this, I'm curious why many people haven't returned. What did you want out of the meetup that you didn't get? What bugged you about it? What suggestions do you have about how to improve it? There is one suggestion I have, and will make right now: stay on topic. That hasn't happened. In fact, we stay on topic less than we get off topic. The topic is incredibly broad, so that shouldn't be hard to do. In fact, even a lot of computer science and physics stuff would be great, as compared to things that are not math at all. Let's do that much, or when we don't, split those conversations off to the side. Feel free to talk about whatever you want, but don't turn the main conversation into something that isn't math related. The meetup is yours to use to meet other math people and talk about what you want. Please, come and do that. If only because I want to meet more math geeks and talk to them about their math stuff, and learn cool stuff from it.
