Since I am no longer a keyed member of Jigsaw, I can't keep the space open (or guarantee it will be open, even) the times we plan to meet. Willow (who basically runs the place), had offered to stay late to make this happen. But she's out of town this week. I'm trying to find another keyed member to keep it open until 8, but so far have had absolutely no luck.
There are three potential solutions to this, listed in my order of preference:
- Move to an earlier slot (5-7pm). This is normal open hours for Jigsaw. We shouldn't have many problems with the space not being open then, but from time to time it could happen.
- I'll restart my membership. As I suspect I would be using it only for the math meetup (which is the reason I canceled in the first place), I wouldn't mind contributions toward that cost, but absolutely would not expect them. Also would not accept them if I were to start using my keyed membership for much else. The membership is $100 a month. I could bear this cost reasonably, and would be willing to, but would really like to avoid it if it's easy to. Which is why I suggest moving to 5-7pm. If that absolutely doesn't work for someone, or definitely for two people, and I can't find a keyed member to help us out, I'll probably just restart my membership.
- Move to another space. This option just kinda blows. Jigsaw has a whiteboard. Jigsaw has cool people. Jigsaw has a projector. Jigsaw has couches. I looked for a new space for a while in the days of the older math meetup, and you'd be surprised how few options there are in this town with whiteboards. Much less projectors, couches, and cool people. (However, there may be one decent option here, which we didn't use in the past: UW. We didn't use it for I'm not really sure what reason, as Emily, one of our most dedicated members before she moved, was a student there. Which is precisely what we need in order to get a room there: a student. But we have at least one of those right now, two depending on how you count. So. An option.)
Really wish we weren't running into trouble like this so early on, but, oh well. Such seems to be the way of meetups.
