RECAP ILCA District 22 Championship Regatta

ILCA DISTRICT 22 CHAMPIONSHIP REGATTA (WA, OR, ID, MT)  July 15-16, 2023    

The District 22 Championship event was hosted by the Columbia Gorge Racing Association in Cascade Locks, OR as part of the annual Wind Regatta on July 15-16, 2023. In addition to the ILCA class there were also Club 420s and Optis. 

The weekend featured the “standard Gorge breeze” of 20-25 knots, puffy and shifty with gusts to 30+ both days. It was a heck of a ride. ILCA sailors in 4s, 6s and 7s from youngsters to oldsters stuck with it and fought through 10 races (5 each day). To be honest the first race on day 1 was light and the second race started light and built to around 15. By the third race it was a full-on blast for the rest of the races Saturday and Sunday. It was sunny both days and over 90 degrees on Saturday. Thankfully it dropped to mid-80’s on Sunday. PRO Kyle Eaton ran an inner trapezoid course for the 4.7s and Optis and a longer outer trapezoid course for the 6s and 7s and Club 420s, with a reach to the finish. As always CGRA and volunteers did a superb job. Kudos to all. 

Competing in the ILCA District  22 Champ event were 24 sailors: five in the ILCA 4, 14 in the ILCA 6 and 5 in the ILCA 7. Top 3 finishers in each class are listed below. Full results can be found at CGRA.org under Wind Regatta.
