This is a callout for volunteers for the PAX Prime commitee.
Involvement in this committee will most likely involve meetings on a
regular basis, taking responsibility for investigation, booking and
organizing, calling and talking to people, voting on issues &
achieveing concensus.

I'm personally volunteering for this comittee, unless there are
considerable objections to my involvement. I promise to not whip out
my Roberts Rules of Order.

I'm also willing to invest a not-inconsiderable amount of money in
booking an IF-centric conference room for the duration of PAX,
assuming one of the proper size can be found nearby at less than
inconsiderable fees.

Please respond or email me privately if you're interested in helping
out.

Thanks.

Cool, that's three so far: George, Dan, and myself. One or two
others?

I cannot commit to this group, but I'd ask to be kept in the loop on communication - I've done similar organizational stuff for other cons, and have some resources that might be useful.

Wish I could help more - certainly, I'll try to be there to spend some time in-person when PAX rolls around.

As an update, I've started researching Conference Rooms around the
Convention Center. I'll post more as I make progress, namely pricing
for all three days.

Anyone who was at PAX East, what's a reasonable size for a conf room?
Able to fit 60 people?

Thanks.

You're talking about something outside the convention center, maybe an
adjacent hotel? That sounds about right. (You're not going to get the
insane foot traffic generated by all of PAX walking past your door and
peering in.)

We should look into suites and larger hotel rooms too. I'm guessing
that'll be more cost-effective than a conference room, more casual, and
while smaller, that may be a good thing -- from what I read of PAX East
their room was around 30 people at maximum I think?

Also it would allow out-of-town people to reserve rooms nearby, for
extra IF gravitational power.

Advantages of a conference room are it's larger, better for a formal
presentation, and maybe more inviting to the casual newcomer? Another
thing to find out is how late they let you party -- I mean discuss IF
theory -- in the conference room.

Other pros and cons?

By the way, the deadline for PAX East panels is in June, but probably
the earlier we get our proposal in the better. Based on what we talked
about at the meetup, things I can think of to do are:

* contact Jason Scott about Get Lamp
* panel ideas and contact potential panelers
* at some point get a page going at IF Wiki.

Thirty, thirty-five, maybe up to forty.

This was the largest room you could get just by going to the Hilton web
site and reserving it. (375 square feet, one bed.) It was not technically
a hotel suite, although we called it that.

An actual suite would have been a better choice for the crowd we got,
while not having the impersonality and time limits (and lack of couches)
that a hotel conference room would suffer. I didn't look into how much a
suite would cost, though. Next year.
