So many excellent opportunities this month. Let's dive right in to the Eco New Year.

Did you know that one of the largest wintering populations of bald eagles migrates through the Skagit River? Volunteer staffed US Forest Service stations 10 a.m. - 3 p.m., all weekends this month, FREE

  • January 15, 8 PM - Michael Pollan: "In Defense of Food: The Omnivore's Solution", Benaroya Hall, Seattle, WA
Tickets $25-250 to benefit the Neighborhood Farmers Market Alliance
  • January 15, 9 AM - Intro to Natural Beekeeping, Woodinville, WA
Presented by 21 Acres beekeeper, Grant Carr, $40
  • January 18, 6 PM - Cultivating Success: Agricultural Entrepreneurship and Farm Business Planning, Everett, WA
A 12-week course put on by WSU Snohomish County Extension to assist local farmers (or wanna-be farmers!), $250
  • January 21 & 28, 6:30 PM - Living Permaculture Into Practice, Bainbridge Island & Seattle, respectively
Still not sure what permaculture IS? This discussion by the founder of Canada's OUR Ecovillage is an amazing example of permaculture practices, $10 suggested donation.

You would think, that after the holidays, I might be a little LESS focused on food events, but it seems my highlights are full of them. Plus, there is so much wonderful momentum behind local food and farms these days.
