Hey everyone,

At the burn blue community meeting a couple days ago, someone suggested that we create a mailing list that we could use to tell each other about things like Blues parties, or blues bombing, or awesome bands, etc.  Not really a burn blue thing, but a seattle blues thing.  And we already had this list that was kinda set up to do that.

So it was suggested that we repurpose this list.  To that end, I've changed the nature of the list and this is me both letting you know that I've done that and asking permission at the same time.  If anyone has a real problem with it, we can always create a new list.

As of now, not only can list admins add new people and post, but any of you can as well.  So, unless anyone has any objections, feel free to make announcements to the community at large here and to also invite your friends!

Hi everyone,

A few days ago at the burn blue community meeting, we had a chance to talk about how to make "Blues at the Bistro" a better venue for the blues community.  Needless to say, the input and feedback was fantastic -- and much appreciated!  I'm happy to announce that we are able to take action right away on quite a few of the suggestions put forward, including the following:

1.  VOLUNTEERING:   We're bringing back the velvet (volunteer) program that we previously had with "Little Red Blues"!  This Friday (July 23rd) we'll be looking for 7 volunteers to work the door and to velvet (ie: mingle, schmooze, be your charming selves, etc).  Door shifts are only 20 minutes.  If you would like to volunteer this Friday, please call or text me at 206 731-9172.

Shifts are :
11:40pm - 12:00am (1)
12:00am - 12:20  (2)
12:20am - 12:40  (2)
12:40am - 1:00  (1)
1:00am - 1:20 (1)

For this evening's volunteers (and for anyone else interested), we will have an open meeting in the Bistro at 11:00pm to talk about what we can do to help create a warm and welcoming environment at LRB for all.

2.  LIGHTING:  We will work to make the dance space and surrounding better lit to facilitate connecting off of the dance floor (Great feedback --Thanks all)

3.  HOURS:  We are trying to figure out a way to start the dances earlier in the evening.   This August, the theater group will be on summer break and we'll have the entire back space for the evening, which means we can run a schedule more like Burn Blue's.  If the turn out is good for the dances through August, we may be able to reclaim the theater space for Friday dances starting at 9pm....  yeah!

Please let me know if you have any thoughts, ideas, or feedback on how we can continue to improve this wonderful venue.  I would love to hear from you.  Write me at aril...@hotmail.com, or I can be reached at 206 731-9172.

Much appreciated,
Ari

PS:  This Friday, Solomon Douglas is DJ-ing the late night blues set starting at midnight.  Blues dance lessons are still from 7-9pm and free live music in the Bistro goes from 9pm - midnight.  Details at our Facebook Group Page:  "Blues at the Bistro"  Hope to see you there!

Hi Ari: I am looking forward to being back, and Fri! And your party of course.
Re: these possible changes-what would that mean for live music portion? Hate to lose that-it's been great, and getting well-attended. Any way of having it earlier, say 7-10 or so? then the Bistro would get more food business too.

Libbie,

I think you might like the DownHomeBluesFestival August 6 in SF (and other events)
(Note: I think CampHollyWood on July 31 now has an all night blues dance room too)

So there were a couple people that voiced concern about this becoming a discussion list as opposed to an announce list.  And because it was originally (when most of you joined) the former, this is what I've done as a compromise.

1) Any member can still post to the list, but it's now moderated.  So if you're posting to figure out how to take yourself off the list or asking a question about an event, one of the admins will probably reject your post (though hopefully we'll still help you out / answer your question :).

2) Replies now go to the author of the post by default, not the whole list.

I hope this makes people happy.  It may be that we want to start another discussion list as well for people that want that.  If so, feel free to do so, and also feel free to announce that here!

Definitely also invite people to join this list and post events here when they are open to the community at large - we'll try to approve them as soon as possible.  If you post regularly, we can also just make you an admin, just talk to me, Ted, Martin, topher, Brynna, or Jesse.
