I helped put together the Seattle Archives Preservation Roadshow last May at NARA. This event helped to provide the public with information about archival preservation in the form of take-away resources as well as in-person advice. I would like the opportunity to take the roadshow “on the road” to the Seattle Public Library in condensed form for the Archives Month celebration in October. I think that this would be a great addition to the repository booths, speakers, and other activities that the group has planned. Before and after the event, I received email inquiring about future roadshows from people who couldn’t make it to the May roadshow. I think there is broad interest in personal preservation education and have made it a personal mission of mine.
This would also be a great way for un and under employed archivists, contract archivists, students, or recent graduates to get involved in this great outreach event.
I would like any feedback on this idea as well as any potential volunteers. Ideally, I would like to get as many people as possible, but probably limit the number of volunteers to 10 (two each hour for 5 hours).
